read the instructions, duh!

Saturday, April 14, 2012

okay, i'm not one to read and keep up with those pages of instructions the doctor gave me. 1st day after surgery, drink lots of liquids, eat light food, relax.

i ate fries and chicken tenders, went out with dh whenever he went out,
(exp: grocery shopping, went to mil and helped feed squirrels...threw up in her drive way. had friends over for cards..threw up after a few hands). when will i ever learn. trying to talk dh into letting me go to store today.

when i take the bandages off tomorrow, doc said i could wear brace for protection, as i told him how clutzy i am. thinking on it, the brace will rub against stitches (even though i'll have a bandaid over them) it fits tight. i have to ice down the sites.

i thought about wearing the sling after i get the big bandage off , that should protect it, what do you think?
i was just thinking on wearing the sling until i get the stitches out.

Directions matter! I learned the hard way after rotator cuff surgery. I'd hate to see you do something crazy and pay later. What happened on the first day is just a sampling of what may come if you're not a good little doobie!

Oh Courti- you poor thing! I know how it is, wanting to do things like normal, but your body not cooperating! Hope things get easier. Yes, definitely check with the doctor about that sling rubbing on the stitches. Maybe there's another solution or brace/sling that can be used. Good luck!

the sling they gave me (gave me..that's a laugh, i'm sure i'm paying for it) covers from my elbow to the tips of my fingers. keeps hand from bumping things, especially my thumb. i'm catching it on things now, like putting on a pull over blouse and putting my arm through the sleeve. have to be real careful there.

Do be careful!! It's okay to favor that hand & protect it, but a sling will only favor an elbow, right? I broke my foot 2 yrs ago & still favor it when I use the stairs.

I hate ta' tell ya' so, cuz' I'm SURE you've learned your lesson on what *light* foods mean, by takin' the HARD road, Sweetie.

Your doctor needs to know your brace is too tight!! You need support, not pain & if your stitches hurt in the brace, it's too tight.

I'm sooo *~*happy*~* you're getting some relief though!! emoticon

finally, surgery date and...how ironic is that?

Monday, April 09, 2012

dh and i we went in to the hand doc office to see why hold up on scheduling hand surgery. they've been contacting my primary doc for bloodwork results (save getting it done again). we went to primary and got report and took back to hand doc. i have to go off the advil i was taking for swelling and pain. (the doctors assist said to take 3 advils after breakfast, lunch, dinner and b4 bed. that's 12 pills...it did okay with pain and did great bringing the swelling down!!!

surgery date will be this thursday.

had time to waste so, we went home b4 going to eye doc appt. i noticed right eye had redness, like broken blood vessel. went to eye doc...it's a hemorrhage and reason.......to much advil...how ironic is that?!!

anyhow, since i have to be off advil b4 surgery they scripted for a pain pill, non-blood thinner and was told to do lots of icing on hand for swelling. don't want it to get as swelled as before or they won't do surgery.

have to go tomorrow for ekg.

Glad you can get to the surgery soon, Courti. I hope they can fix it up for you, and your recovery goes well! Sorry you have to go through all these tests before too. Isn't that something about the advil- that does seem like a lot of advil though.... I guess I'm not surprised.
Good luck! emoticon

Courti I think the voice keyboard is going to really do you justice. I do not like the mouse pad on the laptop so use an external mouse but Anna is right it might give you more computer time.

Sure hope you find something to help, think you could bribe the DH to do all your typing......................LOL

Courti, I find that it is the mouse that causes the most problems with me. Do you have the option of a touch pad? I don't like the touch pad because it is so slow compared to the mouse, but it is a different motion so it may give you a few extra minutes of computer time. Also a splint may help too. I've had a few jobs where I've done repetitive motion and have consciously taught myself to keep my wrists straight, a splint could help you to learn how to do things with your wrists straight. You're right though, staying away from the computer altogether will probably help the most. I'll miss you, but it is much better to take care of it now rather than end up with both wrists in a cast. emoticon

Hi Courti-- To follow-up on what Honey-Hairpins suggested: My dyslexic husband swears by "Dragon Speaking Naturally" products.

Has your doctor suggested night time splinting of your wrists to prevent them from turning into themselves when sleeping? I definitely feel a difference when I don't wear mine.

Anyways, I'll be praying for you and certainly hope that you can get back to feeling better soon!

Courti, you NEED a voice keyboard software program. Many people with physical challenges use speech based applications, even people who are deaf or have vision handicaps & you don't always have to sit in front of the computer to get what you have to say- said either.

You plug in a microphone after you download the program. I've got one set up that I haven't *played* with enough, but I'll get more info to you ASAP. You basically dictate what you want to say (with a few aggravating commands, but, hey... this development took yrs of research & it's, at least 90% AWESOME).

For now, do a search on "voice keyboard software free download"

The meaning of Easter - What does it mean to you?

The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all.
