Auld Lang Syne!!!!

Saturday, December 31, 2011

Happy New Year everyone!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTJ2Yv239z4

"Auld Lang Syne" English Translation (minimalist)
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

CHORUS:

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy mine !
And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine† ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

Repeat

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Auld Lang Syne literally means 'old long ago':
Should old friends be forgotten
and never remembered
Should old friends be forgotten
and the days they shared together
Chorus
For days now in the past, my dear
For days now in the past
We'll drink a toast of kind remembrance
For days now in the past
You can pay for your pint tankard
and I will pay for mine
We'll drink a toast of kind remembrance
For days now in the past
We two have run about the hillsides
and pulled wild daisies
but now we are far apart in distance
From those days now in the past
We two have paddled in the stream
from morning untill noon
but oceans now lie between us
since those days now in the past
So take my hand, my trusty friend
and give me your hand
and we will take a hearty drink together
In memory of those days now in the past
    I always wondered about the words. I think most of us read our own meaning into the song...thinking about toasting to the past and honoring the present. But it's always interesting to know what the composter was thinking when the original lyrics were written.
Thank you for sharing.
Happy New Year!
There's *soul* in her song!! You know how most people can't wait to see the disco ball drop in Times Square- - - well- - - Atlanta now has- - - a PEACH!! emoticon That's right Courti, dearest, we will drop- - - the peach!! hahahahaha!! ::hugs n' kisses:: yer' Annie
Note: It's actually Atlanta’s 23rd Annual Peach Drop so it's not all that 'new' but compared to New York's... we're talkin' pretty new!! December 31, 1907, was Times Square's 1st ball drop.
Into the New Year We Go
Saturday, December 31, 2011
Who is that creeping into my new year? Is it more pounds, chocolate bars and ice cream, inches and tight clothes?
No! I don't make resolutions, because I never keep them, so my New Years PLAN is to eat healthier than I am now and to do a certain amount of cardio and strength a day.
I know there will be days of eating the wrong things, because dh isn't making the same plans and....okay, I give into temptation.
I did get him to agree to making out our weekly menu, so we can schedule some healthier days and eating out days.
Okay, this is a year old, but it still applies:
Good news on my sil Jill
Thursday, December 29, 2011
Thank you so much for your prayers because they are working!!!!!
Jill called to say her doctor called her tonight with the test results. No more cancer in her liver and significant improvement in her bones.
The doctor doesn't want her on the old chemo and wants her to start hormone treatment. She goes to see the doctor on Jan. 6.
I know it was the prayers that did it. Please keep praying for her. Thank you all so so much.
We're all so ecstatic!
Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Thursday, December 15, 2011
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dFTmyjJvYM
"Winter Wonderland" is a pop standard written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and Richard B. Smith. It has been recorded many different times by such artists as Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, Karen Carpenter, Cyndi Lauper, and the Cocteau Twins.
Probably the most popular versions of this classic Christmas song, Winter Wonderland, were recorded to high acclaim by the Andrews Sisters and Perry Como.
The original recording was by Richard Himber and his Hotel Carelton Orchestra on RCA Bluebird in 1934. At the end of a recording session with time to spare, it was suggested that this new tune be tried with an arrangement provided by the publisher. This excellent "studio" orchestra included many great New York studio musicians including the legendary Artie Shaw.
    There is one by Elvis, but I've been having trouble getting them to post from Youtube.
We're having our yard sale right now, so will be in and out, mostly out.
Going through boxes in the garage while waiting for people to come. Found some Christmas decor.
    One of my most favorite songs ever and I love the Perry Como version.
Thanks for reminding us what a clasic it really is. I even think there is a version by Elvis.
