Update on SIL Jill

Thursday, December 15, 2011

I didn't check my other blogs to see if I updated last when we learnt that Jill will be on chemo for life, or at least as long as it is still working.

She goes back to the doctor today and I believe she will learn if it is still working.

We appreciate all your prayers. When someone asks about her or tells us they are still praying it is uplifting to see how many are thinking and praying for her.

Thank you so much.

I keep praying for remission even at this stage, God does do miracles.

I just finally understood about putting another number in the emoticons to make a different picture.
Does anyone know of any other codes to use that aren't in the gallery already?

It wouldn't let me copy and paste the whole thing, tried doing each line separately, but still screwed up. Maybe I can go to her blog on her page using her username. What is her username?

Is your snowman part of the Spark emoticon list? If not, what is the number?

Are you A Clothes Hoarder?

Sunday, December 04, 2011

I'm not really a hoarder, but I do have trouble getting rid of my clothes. I went through a box in the garage that had my sumer blouses. Darn! Now I find them. I'm going through boxes for our yard sale next weekend.
I decided what I need to do is try to keep so many of my fat clothes, medium clothes and skinny clothes for summer and winter and put the rest in our yard sale. But, what do I keep? I want to keep everything even though I haven't worn them in eons.

I'd have a lot more room in my closets if I could narrow it down.

Do you have a problem getting rid of clothes, maybe you are sentimental to some or just like themand don't want to part, just in case you may wear them one day.

I know the old 'if you haven't worn it in a year get rid of it' Hard for me to do that. I don't have money to rebuy clothes.

How do you do it? How do you decide what to keep?

I am a hoarder - can't get rid of them! Even have friends who would be interested in purchasing some of them. Will have to bite the bullet and get rid of them now!!!

I'm not good at *purging* when it comes to my clothes. Clothes are expensive to replace, especially if you do it all at once, so I try to do it a little at a time. I have gotten rid of all my bigger sizes and have some smaller sizes to look forward to.

Wow! Thanks for all the neat ideas and so glad to see that there are some clothes hoarders out there besides me. Maybe we can all get some ideas from the others who have solved their clothes hoarding problems.

Love reading all your posts.

I take my better clothes that are now to big to a consignment store. That way I get money for them and turn around and buy the next smaller size at the same store. There are some around that cater to those of us who are larger women LOL. I give some away but the really nice stuff I take to the consignment store. I have made some money from it that can go towards the new sizes that are coming God willing!

My goal is when I get something new to get rid of something in my closet. I also at the beginning of the season turn my hangers backward on the clothes rod. When I wear an item I put turn it round correctly. That way, I know what I have worn and it doesn't get into the throw it away, give away etc.

If your clothes need to be hemmed, can you find a friend or a relative who can teach you how to do that? That would make your clothes less expensive. I also buy a lot of my clothes at thrift stores, and I have some really nice things that I have found, so I don't mind regiving it to charity. Every now and then, usually seasonally, I go through my clothes, but only recently did I have to give away clothes because they had gotten too big.

I am frugal, so it is hard for me to get rid of clothes. My pet peeve is pants that are too large. Some people mentioned that they didn't realize I was losing weight because my clothes always fit.

I am spending several days during Christmas shopping for clothes. I have to get the old stuff out of my closet to make room. I have sent my husband to a charity with so many bags of clothes, they now have him volunteering once a week.

I got rid of all of my clothes that did not fit about a year ago. I was feeling doomed and desperate and thought I would never lose weight. Now I am down two sizes--almost three--and wish I had kept some of those clothes.

Sort of.

I also like to have much more space in my closets. I like trying to get by with fewer clothes. I am also glad that I donated my clothes to a place that gives them away to those who need them. They were mostly little worn.

All in all, I would not change a thing!

I'm hard to fit as I'm 4'8" but can't wear kids clothes. Everything needs hemmed and that is getting costly at our local alterations.

I did finally let go of some really small summer blouses, spaghetti strapped. Can't believe they once fit. My denim skorts (skirt with built in shorts) look a little too young for me so I guess I'll try to let them go too.

That is the thing too, wear clothes for my age.

I hear you Courti. Even when I have clothes twice my size, I still find myself pinning & using belts. I've tried looking for new clothes but having a difficult time finding skirts & dresses that I like.
Fortunately,I am often blessed by others thinning out their closets. I am also finally getting around to donating clothes not worn by myself & the rest of my family. It keeps them out of the landfill and can be used by someone elsewhere.

I get rid of them as soon as they are too big because I don't want to go back to that size.

I'm Marilyn and I am a RECOVERING clothes hoarder! Because of Sparkpeople and the SparkFriends I have made here, I have given away ALL clothes that are too big. Why because of SP? Because THIS TIME I WILL NOT regain the weight (and therefore need those bigger clothes.) I'm also frugal so now I CAN'T regain the weight - I've given away some really nice clothes and the thought of 're-buying' them is just unacceptable.

My thought is to go through the 'can't fit yet' clothes really carefully, keeping only the ones you TOTALLY love! Give the rest away to a new home. Because when you get to your goal weight you will DESERVE only clothes you love.

Actually I am needing to go back through my clothes because after a buying spree before we went on vacation last month (its so much fun to shop when clothes all FIT!) my closet is too full. So I have to choose which clothes I love the least and 'bless and release' them to new homes. One walk in size closet full of clothes is enough for anyone, and mine is so full it makes it hard to find what I'm looking for. So thinning them out is on my 'to do' list.

I am a total, complete clothes (and shoes) horder! I have to force myself to pick clothes out of the closet to get rid of and I always have excuses why I dont want to get rid of each item like, 'I plan to wear that (some day)' and 'I paid a lot for that!' But I find that if I give it away, it is easier..I gave a bag of pretty nice sruff to a struggling co-worker who loves to dress up. She took more than half..so I felt good to give it to someone who needs extra clothes. Also to give to charity. Thanks for the reminder..I need to get rid of more clothes! I have newer items hanging on the out side of the closet doors since there's no more room in the closets.- I only seem to wear the newer stuff anyway. :)
ps I find it helps to get rid of anything that looks old and that you just dont wear! Keep what you will wear.

I have the opposite problem. i like to get rid of all, but the bare minimum because I hate having a lot of extra stuff around the house. I usually get rid of clothes first that I don't REALLY like, and I seem to be able to get rid of enough by just that.
Good luck!

Is there really such a word as 'semi-ambidextrous'? I didn't find it in my dictionary, but I think that is what I am and plenty of other people. To be Ambidextrous is to be able to use BOTH hands EQUALLY well.

Semi-dexterous would be being able to do some things with each hand, not necessarily equally well.

I'm basically a righty, but I can do some things with both hands, paint, eat, write (even though I'm better at writing faster with my right).

Or could the word be 'semi-dextrous'?

I use the term Ambidextrous to apply to just which hand people write with. as I'm a left handed writer and almost everything in the WORLD is designed for right handed people I've had to adapt most of my stuff. but which hand your right with doesnt matter. pens and pencils are specified to one side like scissors...(a jeez how I HATE scissors:P)

I'd say I'm mostly a rightie, but there are some things that I am left handed on, like shooting a bow or gun. I think that's partly due to my eye-sight though, since my left eye has way better sight than my right. My hand writing is kind of funny with my left hand. I write backwards and reversed so that you could read it properly if held up to a mirror.

LYANNA75 11/25/2011 11:27PM

I'm the same way. I always just say I'm ambidextrous though. :) I COULD write with my left hand if I wanted, but it's a little sloppier so I choose not to. And I COULD play whiffle ball right handed if I wanted, but it just feels weird since I've always done it left handed. Lol. One good thing about being this way is that I can choose which hand to eat with when I'm out with friends, so I'm not constantly hitting the person next to me with my elbow or something. ;)
