OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

I hadnít come in contact with much of that disorder until I realized that my mil little quarks were under the topic of OCD. Now my husband thinks the little things I do are alsoÖ.OCD. I consider them ways of organization.

Donít get me wrong, Iím a messy housekeeper, but Iím fussy about how my towels are folded to put on the shelves (because they fit better folded that way); the way I have to have my glasses in size on the shelves, from tallest to smallest (it makes it easier so whatever size you want you know where which side of the cupboard to open). Refrigerator has 4 shelves and one shelf is for drinks, no drinks should be on any other shelf (so we know what drinks we have and when we are out of them) Food on other shelves, no drinks allowed. Bread has itís own shelf (for same reason as drinks)
Salad dressing on one shelf (so we know what we have to reorder any we are out of any).
Napkins go in holder one way, the fold on top (so when you take one out, it isnít unfolding)

My blouses in one closet have to go on a hanger in a certain way, but in the other closet they go on the opposite way (so I can see the front of the shirt), no designs on walls (so I can see any spiders if any on the wall), covers on bed must not touch floor (so spiders canít climb aboard).

My husband makes fun of me because at the store Iím always putting something back on the shelf that fell off or organizing something because it is in the wrong place. (that way things are with the things it goes with) I am that way at home too, case in point, drinks with drinks and bread with bread. I used to keep the small forks together and dinner forks together but he never kept it that way so now they are mixed.

Empty hangings go at the end of rack not in between clothes (drives me crazy, so that way you have all your empty hangers hanging together whenever you need one) I sometimes take empty hangers at the thrift store and hang them at the end of the rack.

Husband grabs his sweater and carries it any old way. I tell him to take it by the tag on the collar and fold it over. (sleeves won't hang on ground)

Prior dayís newspaper must be put back in order and put in newspaper stand Sun in the back and Sat in front. When week is done, they go out to the recycle bin (so if you are looking for a certain newspaper, it is there in order and all together).

For those who have OCD, I don't think there is a team for this.

IĎm sure thereĎs other things IĎm not remembering.

So you see, everything has a meaning so I donít have OCDÖ..or do I?

If I think of anything else, I'll add.

My husband and I do have one bad habit in common, we can't get rid of things. We aren't hoarders though. We both have two closets we share full of clothes...okay I have some in another closet as well. I can't get rid of my fat clothes, skinny clothes or in between. I always need then at some time or other. Video tapes of shows I've taped are taking over the den. I have two cabinets full as well.

I just find it hard to get rid of things. We have had yard sales and got rid of stuff (so I'm not a horrdor), but I have so much that I've never used, when I get rid of something, I end up needing it down the road.
I have a hard time getting rid of purses and shoes, I did get rid of some then found out a place that can widen shoes, I still have more than needed.

forgive me but I laughed my a@@ off when I read this. It is like you have been spying on me for like...well forever!!!!! This isn't a horrible thing...at least not from my way of thinking. Let me ask you, who does everyone go to when they can't find something. Let me guess...is it you? of COURSE it is! Although my DH says it is because women have a uterine homing device I know it is because I put things back where they belong when I am done with them and live by the rule that there is a place for everything and everything in its place.
So you just go ahead wit yer bad self and ROCK ON!

It sounds to me like OCD (but what do I know?). It's one thing to have a method for things (like putting empty hangers at the end of the rack) but it becomes OCD when you insist that it is always done that way, and if you spend extra effort to put things in that order. I think most people would think, hey, that's a good idea to put the empty hangers at the end, because then if you need one, you know where to look. But most people, if they see a hanger somewhere else, might move it, or might wait til later to move it, like when there are multiple hangers in the wrong place. I guess what I'm trying to say is that when things MUST be that way, it's OCD. When you can live with them being a different way, that's not OCD.

Just my opinion, anyway. I guess if it doesn't bother you OR the other people in your household, then who cares?

I think your reasons for doing things a certain way all make sense. I agree it is good organization, not OCD. The way I see it, for example, if one washes their hands excessively and there is no reason behind it (just their neurosis of imagined germs), then that qualifies as true OCD to me. Just thinking your hands are dirty all the time without doing anything to make them dirty seems a little odd. But then again I would say OCD is in the eye of the beholder- what I may think as OCD, another may believe it's not!

I wouldn't worry too much :-) OCD is rampant in my family, including yours truly, and what you describe is livable. It's when it keeps you awake at night and you can't breathe when you can't have things a certain way that may lead to medication. Life's pretty hard when I'm not medicated! Everything you mentioned sounds completely logical to me. emoticon

    We all have OCD issues.

My desk is a mess, but my computer folders are very organized. I weigh myself 2X a day, yet don't believe the scale half the time.

I think the best you can do, is use your OCD as much as you can as a useful tool.

Embrace your OCD!!

Well...not sure on the OCD...but I must also say..."Does it matter?" I think everyone has a little OCD in them...it's only a problem if it becomes a problem...right? I think a lot of it is just habit...and that's a good thing...

The not being able to get rid of stuff could become a problem though...

Funny because I'm the opposite...I'm constantly donating...if it hasn't been worn or used in a couple months...I get rid of it...mind you I have 4 kids and if I kept things I probably wouldn't be seeing my floor... emoticon

'Yote's OCD and mine appear to compliment each other (for instance, I've adopted the hanger thing - he does the same thing of putting empty ones at the end, which he learned from his mom and I think it's smart so now we both do it, and he's adopted my dishwasher rules of what gets loaded where that I learned from MY mom). :) He says it's "My mother's neurosis rubbed off" LOL I think it only qualifies as true OCD if you can't leave it the "wrong" way and have a panic attack over it when it's "wrong" whether it makes sense or not, but I'm not 100% on that. :)

I weighed in on my BLC team and was a couple onces over what I w/i last week. Not bad. Looking back to the beginning, I've lost a couple pounds. Not much but better than gaining.

I'm working more on strength training for my WWoHP team and hope to make some inch changes, not that I have been measuring as I should have been along.

Finding my Family Tree

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

I've been having fun trying to find my ancesters, but so many brick walls. I've started to put each family on colored paper, different color for each family, but just to find them on census etc to put on my tree. '

One member I couldn't find at all so just put the info on myself. My cousin did a famiily tree and sent me my part so I trust his info. He had genealogist helping him. I just like to find them so I can add them officially to my tree.

The hardest if way back when they didn't put the kids names, they just put 2 males and 4 females, no names or ages. How can you find anything like that?

I try to find an ancester as a child so to find their parents, but sometimes it just doesn't work. I get along better when I get clues from cousins or message boards. I've met a couple cousins (online) who I didn't know, just from doing my tree.

I have this obession t find my Irish side, but if they are out there, they are pretty good at hiding. The one clue that my grandmother gave me, doesn't work out from the census records.

I've found my German, Scottish and English side.

I made a separate notebook for each family (well, not all but the ones I'm finding info on), so I can at least have it in a book, if not on my online tree.

Leigh, TenEyck, Ferguson, Knowles, Arthur, Galloway, Culp.

I got this from my Genealogy team and I'll probably find my Irish in the last set of grandparents.

How Many People It Took To Make You!

1)............1 YOU
2)............2 parents
3)............4 grandparents
4)............8 great grandparents

20).....524,288 ggggggggggggggggg grandparents
21)...1,048,576 gggggggggggggggggg grandparents
22)...2,097,152 ggggggggggggggggggg grandparents

I came across a posting for the parents of my earliest relative posted to me tree.
Wilhelm TenEyck parents are Andreas and Anneke. But for there parents names it says "EOL" which means End of Line.
How can it be the end of the line, they had to have parents. It was on a few different trees, not just one. ?????

That makes sense, Ana, I thought it strange that it had an end. They were hatched from an egg? haha, no then they'd be related to the duck. It's early morning and I'm goofy, well, not that early but I went to bed around 2:00.
I should persue that line further. Who know, maybe that is where my Irish lies. They must have just given up going any further.
I too have gotten a lot from other researchers and love looking over other's family trees, I'll miss that the most when not a paid member. Ive been looking for articles and pics of tombstones from other trees.
My Baltzer Culp established New Somerset, Ohio. He came from Germany. I hope to find other stories on other relatives. Like anyone from the Civil and Revolutionary war.

Geneology is both fun and frustrating! My ancestors are mostly German, but we also have Irish, English, Welsh and possibly French. Thank goodness family tree fanatics like to share, because we have gotten alot of our info from other people's research.

I suspect EOL means *End Of Line of research*, like the researcher was unable to find any more records past that point.

Good Luck and Happy Digging!

I've always wanted to do the research into my dad's family (I believe a cousin has already done most of my mom's side). My dad was first generation American - my grandfather came to the US from Russia when he was in his pre-teens. Unfortunately the notes I'd taken from talking with my dad have long since disappeared, so finding anything will be an uphill battle. I've searched the Ellis Island records before and didn't find anything. *sighs*

Interesting. I find my husband's family more fascinating than mine, but that may be cause its newer in my head. For me, I believe I've been traced to a native american/indian tribe (which is the correct way to say it nowadays?), Germany, and England (at least as far as their previous country before coming to America). My husband has been traced to a Scottish tribe (and then because the clan broke up, its hopeless to find more info) and Slovakia (which is another mess to find more on, cause his last name there is apparently as common as Smith and Jones here)

X Factor

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

While watching X Factor, we kept being interrupted by tornado warnings that played over and over for like 5 minutes at a time. It's good to have these, but right at an important time?

What was Simon's big mistake? I did find out about Drew making it through. I still don't know all the acts by name, but it should get more interesting now.

I did miss Dancing with the Stars but did find out who was eleminated.

Yay Maks, still in there!!!

They really should have done better matching the groups with the judges. Nicole is a group singer. She'd know more about that. I don't think Paula wanted groups.

Is this the way they do it in the UK?

I remember when Sabrina from the group Cheetah Girls, was voted off DWTS. She was good. Everyone was shocked. Somehow they need to have the judges have the last say, not the public.

There's a show on BBC where they have judges but the writer or director or producer whateever he is..Webber (I keep wanting to call him Frank Lloyd Wright, lol I'm sure Webber doesn't build houses). The judges come up with the bottom 2 and Webber has final say. DWTS public could come up with the final 3 and let the judges vote off from that.

Glad I found this blog. I agree that Jazzlyn should have still been in the competition. I really do not like Tia, and the Justin Bieber groupie is not that strong either, in my opinion. Neither should have made it to the live show, with all of the other good singers in the girls group. BIG mistake with Paula's groups, I thought. Where, in the music industry, is that large group going to fit...unless they're hoping to start a Glee knock-off show! 4Shore was one of the best acts in the whole competition, I thought, and should definitely have made it ahead of Lakoda Rayne (sp?). For the guys, I was surprised that the young rapper made it, too. LA said, from the start, that he was too young...so, I was surprised that he picked him. I don't remember what the really hot guy's name was...but I think he would've been a better pick, and was definitely a fan favorite. As for the over 30s, I'm pulling for the guy from Columbus, OH, because he was such a diamond in the rough, and I think he's one of the best singers in the group. I felt sorry for the wedding singer who was told that "it's more than just about the singing." The delivery wasn't good on that one, Nicole.

As for DWTS...what a mess this season! They've already voted off 2 top contenders, which leaves JR without much competition. He's awesome, though, and probably should win it anyway. But the way things are going, it's anyone's guess. Now, if JR gets voted off, I'll quit watching the show, for sure! I would've kept watching because of Carson's great entertainment...but even HE is gone!

it was supposed to be unanamous(darn spelling). but i i feel if simon can bring someone back there should be one more for each catagory as well to keep it even....I'm glad I'm not the only one who disliked the rapper...my mom doesnt care much for him. but we noticed that L A got rid of TWO country singers. (one of which i liked alot) I don't think that was right and he dropped in my opinion for bringing rihanna in then even more for dropping 2 country singers and taking that spoiled kid...I've watched almost every episode(last night was flipping back and forth between it and dwts) and I love it. That is sosmething that Simon made a mistake. Who Simon...make a mistake! Now he has an extra person. Is that fair to the other judges?

I watched the initial auditions up to the Final 32---then I missed last night's show (DVRing Biggest Loser and NCIS instead...and then DWTS results). I had lost interest in X Factor, not really caring who made it through and who didn't. I'm not liking this show so much, but maybe now that we're into the live competition part, it'll get more interesting.

The young rapper has had too big a head since Day 1 for me. I did not like him on his first audition, and I still don't like him.
