Nims, I used to watch a western a long time ago called 'Sugarfoot'. Will Hutchins was in it. Sure, pick a name and you can be an honorary member. I'm Small Feather.

Personal Wellness 1

Friday, September 16, 2011

I went on vacation to Old Town in Florida for only 4 days, but as holidays go, I over did the eating thing.

A little Golden Corral here, a little Bob Evans there, here a Tex Mex, there a Steak n Shake, everywhere an oink oink. Pig out!!!

Now I pay. (heavy sigh).

I really need to start tracking seriously. I start out but as the day goes on my tracking fades.

Tomorrow is my birthday so DH is taking me to the Mexican restaurant Ay Jalisco. Company for lunch with Taco Bell. No cake! But alas, I shant be any lighter than I am now. (does Shant have an ' Shan't?)

If I had eaten proprly today with all the exercising I was doidng I'd be in great shape or at least a great start. I did an hour on the treadmill tonight and 1/2 hour earlier, besides the danacing from my BLC-17's 70's Disco Fever.

I'm not really hungry, but feel like I want to eat.

Anyhow, that's my personal wellness blog for today.

My name is Small Feather and I'm a member of the Moche Indian tribe on BLC-17. My trusty Pinto....Pinto Bean, and I will be hunting for a healthier body this round.

Sites for Indian name generator:

I had this link on my document list but forget what it is, but it must have been something I wanted so here it is.

My 3 Item Bucket List for the next 12-weeks:
1) Learn to play an instrument
2) Find my Irish roots
3) learn to eat a new veggie or learn German

For a 'picky eater', learning German will be easier. I already know some words.

It's All In The Name

Saturday, September 03, 2011

I’ve been on a tangent to find the proper pronunciation of my first name, Caitlin.

I usually just go by my nickname Courti, from my middle name Courtney, but I want the true pronunciation of Caitlin.

I’ve read that ‘kate-lyn’ is an Americanization pronunciation, or that the movies thought it sounded prettier.

I’ve come across some different ways to say it like: cawt-leen, koyt-leen, cawtch-leen, catch-leen Which is right?

After all, you don’t hear ‘Sean’ pronounced ‘seen’ or ‘Seamus’ pronounced ‘see mus’, Yvette pronounced 'Y' vette, I've heard 'Ian' pronounced 'I'an and 'Eye-an'

So, why not pronounce Caitlin the proper way.

Although, for whatever reasons, some Sean’s may call themselves ‘Seen’.

I just read that the Irish don't have the letter 'K' or 'H'. Is that right?!

If anyone can advise me of what is proper I’d appreciate it.

Nóirín, that's a pretty name too. I didn't know about the 'in'. I'm already 'small' as I'm only 4'8". lol Not the small I wanted though.
I wish I had the accent over the last 'i'. I like the 'een'.
I'll still pronounce the 'een'.

Hi again. I looked at that link suggested and I have to say some of the pronunciations are distinctly dodgy! You can of course pronounce your name however you want! Do you know that the -ín ending means little? My name is Nóirín meaning little Nora ( a state I am hoping to achieve with Spark People). The pronunciation I gave you is the correct one in the Irish (Gaelic) language. However the form of the name that is most common here is Kathleen (pronounced Cath-leen)as in the old song 'I'll take you home again Kathleen'.

Pat, I wasn't able to click on this. I tried to copy and past but I couldn't get the second line to paste. I think there is a button to add a link when you type a post. I'll still try to get it. Thanks.
How have you been doing? Are you ready for BLC 17?
No, looking at this post, they don't have the 'add a link' button. I'll try to copy and paste it into a document then I"ll have the whole line together. They make it so hard. lol

Donegirl, does that mean without an accent above the 'i', I can't pronounce it 'leen'? I love that sound, very Irish. I could still tell people that is how I'd like it pronounced, huh?
That is very interesting of the letters you don't use. We get so used to what we do and use that we forget that other countries are very different in some ways. I'd love to travel and visit other countries to see the various traditions etc.
I love learning about other places and meeting people. I live in Florida so we have many other nationalities. Rare to find a Floridian. lol JUST KIDDING FLORIDIANS.

Hi Courti. I think I can help. Kate-lyn is an americanization of the old irish name Caitlin. The correct spelling (in Irish) is Caitlín with an accent on the final 'i' called a síne fada meaning a lengthening sign. This makes the last syllable sound like -een. Without the accent it would just be pronounced 'in'. Now for the first syllable I am struggling to help you to pronounce it! I think the closest is a sound between Cotch-leen and Cawtch-leen but remember that the w sound is very short there is no -caw sound. Irish does not have the letters J,K,Q,V,W,X,Y or Z but it does have H. I hope this helps!

Not sure if this helps but my niece in New Zealand is Caitlin and the family pronounces is "Kate-lyn" although with their accent sometimes it almost sounds like "Kite-lyn" :-) I do really like that name...

So your name is Caitlin Courtney? Wow that is just a beautiful name no matter how you pronounce it. I have always said Kate-lyn for your first name but I guess that is just because I have always heard it pronounced that way. My great great grandma was Klaytia which is clay-tee-ah, Karma So she was Klaytia Karma Frances................quite a mouthful but I love it as well. Now I am the 5th generation of Frances in my family.

I hope someone can help you out on this one. I can't wait to hear the feed back.

Okay, so I can't spell it or probably pronounce it properly, but the meaning is still there. I'm in a lazy mode.

I haven't been trying as hard as I should on my challenges, but I have one week before another team starts up. I'm hoping to get my mojo sparked by then....mojo?? Maybe that isn't the right word either.
