BLC - Mid-Challenge Thoughts

Friday, May 27, 2011

A couple years ago I was skinnier than Iíve every been. Donít let anyone tell you you canít lose those inner thighs, donít let htem tell you that you canít tone those arms. YOU CAN DO IT!! Someone use to tell me I couldnít because of my age and my metabolism changed. Boy, they were wrong and now I know not to believe that.

Lately, Iíve been gaining weight and inches. I know what my problem is; Itís no will power or determination.

I need to learn to say ĎNoí, to Taco Bell. ĎNoĒ to Dominoes Pizza. I make out my menu for the whole week and then have to go back in and change meals around. I did stay within range last week, donít ask me how, but I did. These last couple days I didnít make the corrections to the tracker so I donít know where I stand there.

I have a challenge to stay in range Friday thru Monday. Iím trying!!!

I used to have an exercise plan for the week: Mon, Wed, Fri do the leg and hip routine;
Tue, Thu, Sat do the arms; Do abs everyday; cardio everyday.

Then I tried creating a new system that isnít exactly working.

So what does that tell meÖ.go back to my original plan Dummkopf!!

Courti, I'm with you. Now's the time to dig deep and find that self control. I'm going to start tracking my food again to keep myself accountable. I'm also going to pre-plan for the entire week. That has helped tremendously in the past. Heck, DH & I grilled chicken to last us all week...so...no excuses there!

Hope you can find your will power again. (If you do, let me know where it is.) emoticon

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. *grin*
But sometimes we get bored, and need to mix it up. And sometimes our body gets used to what we are doing and stalls, and we have to mix it up to get started again. Nothing to stop you going back though, cos it sounds like it was doing you a great service before you mixed it up. :-)

It's funny how when things are working we try to mess with it. I too struggle with fast food.
You are doing great planning and tracking, stick to that!
You can do it!!!!

More about Jill

Monday, May 23, 2011

Jill finished her radiation and had her first chemo. It left her tired and nauseous. That was last week. Today she was pretty tired and hasn't been drinking or eating much. We took her to her mom for a visit and so her mom could take care of her. She looked a lot better when we went to take her home.
She did have a bloody nose today and her blood pressure has been low. Don't know what that means.

I hope she will be feeling better for her son's graduation next month.

How to Overcome Bad Eating Habits

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

This was taken from my local newspaper:

1: Poor Meal Planning
Taking a few minutes to plan out weekly meals before shopping for the week will save you money, calories and time.

2: Too Many Meals Away From Home
Restaurants and take-out always will mean super-sized portions, along with more calories and sodium.

3: Too Many Processed Foods
Opt for mostly fresh and whole foods and read labels to help make the smartest choices when you do go for more highly processed goods.

4: Too Much Added Sugar
Sugar is lurking in places you might not expect, like whole-grain cereals, salad dressings, condiments and breads. Take inventory of the total sugar in your diet and find ways to cut back on those empty calories.

5: Mindless Eating
Instead of just eating when hungry, many of us grab food when we're bored, tired, stressed, happy or sad.

6: Not Eating Together
Along the same lines as eating mindlessly comes eating while distracted, over-scheduled and in multiple shifts.

7: Eating on the Run
Leaving the house for a busy day without packed snacks or meals sets the stage for diet disaster.

8: Giant Portion Sizes
You think you can eyeball portions, but have you really ever measured out your morning cereal, spoonfuls of peanut butter or olive oil for cooking? Just do it a few times to give yourself some perspective.

9: Too Many Liquid Calories
Sip on calorie-free beverages like water, unsweetened teas and seltzers in place of high-calorie drinks.

10: Not Eating Enough Throughout the Day.
Avoid stuffing yourself in the afternoon and evening by spreading out calories, starting with a healthy breakfast.

This is a site given to me by a friend Sparker.

I will try to keep it updated and you can post replies for Jill to read.

I never knew of this site before, but will keep it in mind for other situations with family that may arise. This would have been great when my mom was living.

Her name is Jill Clear. I hope I completed the site so you can download it properly. Please let me know. Thanks.

Jill's prognosis so far

Friday, May 13, 2011

The doctor said the surgery went fine. When we went back to see Jill, she was sitting up in her bed drinking a diet soda.

Today we went to her doctor's appt and he said with the chemo she should get a year.

I figure they're always making progress in cancer research, so hopefully they will having something else that can be done by then to give her more time.

We try to keep her in good spirits and I forward all of your uplifting post. She really appreciates reading all of them and thanks all of you too.

I appreciate all of you prayer warriors. I know you are what's getting Jill through all of this. Thanks so much.

Wonderful to hear the surgery went well, and Jill is already up and alert, woo hoo! One step at a time. God is faithful, he holds our hand through the most difficult of times, he carries us gently when we feel like we cannot go on. Lean on Him, he cares. And I love the post about laughing yourself well, I've read some of those research projects, where a positive outlook and laughter did wonders for the immune system. It helped the body to create more positive chemicals, which starts a wonderful cycle of health and healing.
