Monday, October 18, 2010

In todayís economy we need to learn to cut cost everywhere we can.

This article gives us tips to help us in ar day to day energy saving lifestyle

1) We should turn our refrigerator down. Our refrigerator accounts for 20% of our electricity use.
2) Set our clothes washer to warm or cold setting, not hot
3) Be sure the dishwasher is full when you run it also use the energy saving setting if it has one.
4) Turn down the water heater thermostat. Usually 120 is okay.
5) When you buy a new appliance, look for the most energy-efficient model.

Metal Roofing
Steel and aluminum are the most common and affordable materials in metal roofing; they are strong, durable, fire resistant and can withstand harsh weather.

They reflect a lot of the sunlight keeping the heat from entering your home. You can use a protective coating that helps to increase their reflective power. By reflecting the sunlight and heat, it will keeps the roof cooler and

You're welcome. It's part of our WWoHP challenge. I'm turning off more lights and fans now too. Guess these challenges do work.

I never ever set my laundry to hot. I never realized that I'm saving energy by doing that. Plus I never realized that I kept my fan going all day when I'm not home. I started turning it off more often. I'm liking this list! Thanks for posting this, Courti!

I hope I'm not suppose to be working on 'positive attitude' as a challenge because it's not working. I think I did change that challenge to something else....good thing.

It's hard to come out of a frustrating mood what with family, organiziing stuff, heart rate monitors that don't cooperate, housework, etc.

I read somewhere that someone else had a problem coming out of a bad mood. You can't just turn your mind around...I know, self-talk, but when you're in a bad mood, you don't think about doing self-talk, because that is positive and I'm in a negative.

That doesn't help with getting along with famiily either. Seems like sometimes it doesn't take much to set off a bad mood...maybe that is because I'm a moody person...maybe it's just because I was trying ot deal with something that wasn't working out for me and it put me in a funk at the outset of the day.

OH!! I know exactly where you're at, my friend!! I think we all do. Sometimes... it's just natural to be in the place you happen to be in. For example, you got days of sun, then days of stormy weather. It's natural. We're WAY MORE complex than Cheshire Cat grins all the time. We're multifaceted- like a crystal, and... many of us are- um, sensitive to what's going on around us. We may not dwell in the shadows of moody or grumpy emotions for long, but we will go there. Melancholy is a part of *me* and maybe it is also a part of you. Just accept that you're not ALWAYS gonna' be lil' Miss Sunshine. Some days you may be a storm cloud, or... even a bolt of lightening. It is okay to be you, my friend. ::hugs::

    Hey Courti,

Has that emoticon stopped following you around? I sure hope so but if not then so be it. You can't have a good day every day, some days you are going to be in a funk and that is all there is to it.

So hope you can pull yourself up by the boot straps out of it as soon as possible, but if not we are here to give you a few good shoves to get you going in the right direction.

Love ya sis,

I did get out of the funk after a while. Even had a good time at a virtual bridal shower on one of my teams. Got way miffed over trying to do something with the computer. Just seems that lately I get mad so easy.

Yes, that is clever. Witch I could come up with things like that.

Thanks everyone for your support and friendship. I do appreciate it.

You must be having one of those days...when you just want to be mad, have a bad attitude towards anything and everything. Those days are going to happen, what you chose to do with them...that is what defines you. Hope you can get out of the funk and put a smile back on that beautiful face of yours.

Hang in there! emoticon

PS - we certainly have some clever friends! (Witch-ing you a wonderful Saturday! Good one Claudia!)

Courti...sorry to hear you aren't in a good frame of mind. Can you do something YOU like that will help lighten your mood? Is what is bringing you down really all that important at the end of the day? I know it is difficult sometimes, but try not to let frustrating things take the smile off your face. You have a lot of positives to hold on to! Let them bring your 'tude back up!

Witch-ing you a wonderful Saturday! emoticon

emoticon What are your biggest obstacles in your path, the biggest challenges you must overcome on your journey? And what is your plan for getting around, over, past, or through them?

If it is eating, maybe it is time you started a menu plan. If it is a certain type of food, how will you avoid it? If it is exercise, how will you schedule your day? If it is attitude.. what will you do to support yourself? PLAN TO SUCCEED... AND YOU WILL!!

Oh boy, Iíve got a lot to work on, just donít know where to start.

I just finished a challenge to track our Sodium. That was tough, trying to stay in calorie range AND Sodium. I know in my case, I need to keep my Cholesterol in range and I seem to be doing okay with that. I hadnít even thought about keeping the other nutrients in range, just calories. Iíve learned from this challenge.

**Keep calories & cholesterol & any others nutrients of importance (check w doctor)

Another problem I have are family meals. I usually eat at my scheduled time, which various from the family (dh & mom). I track my meals for the week.

My husband and I use to make weekly menus; we didnít over spend or buy more food than what we needed. (plus our freezer didnít get over packed re-buying what we already have). We used to make out our menu on Thursday and bought what groceries we needed for the next week.

We cleaned out our freeze yesterday. I asked him how much did he think we threw away. He said he didnít want to think about it. We had 3 garbage bags full: boxed foods, frozen meats, packages of veggies, etc. Some of it is foods I donít eat. Iím picky. My husband does the grocery shopping.

I get tempted. DH will ask if I want lasagna or roast, potato etc for supper. I already have my menu made out! Let me know days before, at least.

I do pretty well with my exercise routine. Iím retired and SAHD (stay at home daughter - caregiver for my mom). I have to schedule my exercises, showers, eating, etc in between tending to my mom (wash up, her exercises, meals).

What will I do to support myselfÖ..Hummm, letís see.

~~Keep tracking my foods and making my menu a week ahead.

~~Have another good talk with my husband about meals. (this will be the hard one to conquer)

~~I can read books on patience and attitude and pray a lot. I know not to pray for patience as God will give you reason to want patienceÖ.I already have reasons. Iíll pray for guidance and help with my attitude when Iím having a bad day.

WoW Courti! What you put into this Blog!! I'm so glad you were able to learn from this challenge! After all, isn't that why they are called challenges? You have to challenge yourself to try new things, explore new areas of health, and whatever else may come along! I know we may say it a lot....but we are all here to help and support one another!!

emoticon I try to get up early to start my exercise routine, instead of staying in bed. Iíve made a schedule of meal times, which sometimes doesnít coincide with the family.
I am trying to exercise in my heart rate range to be a better 'loser'.

What changes have you made in your lifestyle that you are most proud of?

I would have to say I am proud that I am sticking to a daily routine of exercise and tracking my food.

It has helped me lose weight and inches. I'm hoping to figure out my HRM so I can tell how many calories I'm burning.

I plan to be fairly well toned and eating healthier by the end of the 12 week BLC-14 challenge.
