Gone Out of Town!

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Today was a good day. My friend came over and sat with my mom so Mom and I could go to Ft. Pierce to Golden Correll to eat. Did some shopping and went to a book store. Nice to get away like that.

I'm afraid I didn't have time to do any of my HP challenge, didn't clean any hot spots or do laundry or have time to exercise before going online.

But, I'll tell you what I am....I'm tired! It's hot out and I'm not use to doing much activitiy. That's were the exercise comes in. I need to keep my schedule for my health sake.

Having a time with mom. My friend noticed that she is moving a lot slower and refused to do her walk around the rooms per what her therapist had told her.

She's going to a lung docor later in the month, hopefully that will make a difference, but I don't know if he'll get through to her. She has to do a walk with her walker down the hallway, since she can't go on the treadmill.

I can just see her on the treadmill with her walker...picture it. lol Go mom go!!

I can picture it now, Courti......your mom, and walker, on a treadmill ! She
really should try and walk down that hallway, or she will lose all her leg
muscle strength ! Hopefully the dr will convince her to do so !

I am so glad that you got a chance to get away for a while......you should try
and take a breather every once and a while for your own mental and physical
health, my friend ! Good for you !!! emoticon

If I knew how to do it, I'd superimpose a picture of my mom walking on her walker and our treadmill, but I'm not that camera savvy.

Glad you were able to get away for a bit. My mom was the caretaker of my Grandma, it takes a lot of energy. Interesting how the cycle goes. One is born, and every need is taken care of; we grow older and more independent, taking care of our own needs and the needs of others (family) as well. Then, these bodies begin to wear out and we find ourselves bock in the position of needing to be cared for again. Great image of you mom on the treadmill with her walker! LOL!

Getting to know myself - Harry Potter team goals

Monday, July 12, 2010

On my Harry Potter team I have to write a blog on "Getting to know myself, using the following topics:

1. What are 3 simple goals that I have set for myself during this summer term? Will I drink enough water each day? Read for Pleasure? My choice!
2. What are the obstacles that might come in the way of reaching those 3 goals?
3: What is my plan for overcoming those obstacles?

My 3 goals for this summer challenge are:
Goal 1: Clean/organize some hot spots around the house
Goal 2: Do my exercises before I go online
Goal 3: Keep up the laundry

2. The one main obstacle is my computer. I love FrontierVille on Facebook. I even have two accounts set up and both are on FrontierVille. I also play a few others, but not much.

3. Plan for overcoming obstacles: I will try to do some of my exercises, work in rooms and start laundry before going online. I’ll set a timer to remind me to get off. (maybe….3 or 4 hours?) :-}

I always go out to run/walk first thing in the morning---I'm not even quite awake. Need to lay out the clothes the night before and then I'm on autopilot in the morning.

Week 11 - Challenge Wrap-up

Sunday, June 27, 2010

This blog is for my Challenge of Harry Potter classes:

I think the one thing I messed up on was in my class of Defense Against Dark Arts.
My goal was to ‘not eat impulsively after 8:30‘, which shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Well, when our friends come over for cards, they sometimes bring McDonalds small cups of ice cream. It’s hard to say no, so I don’t emoticon Luckily, I believe it is made with reduced fat ice cream.

I feel really good with what I have done in my Transfiguration class ( doing my exercises), I have been getting up earlier the past couple days to start my stretches, before my mom calls me to get her up. The earlier I can start, the more routines I can get done and I feel better. Usually I only get my stretches done, but that is good.

I have been doing great in writing letters and sending pictures to my friends and family for my ‘Care of Magical Creatures’ class. Not that they are creatures…… emoticon
Also, I found one of my cousins had asked to be a friend on one of my Facebook accounts that I rarely use. I referred her to my regular account.

If it hadn’t been for these classes, I wouldn’t have taken the time to keep in contact with some friends who I’ve lost touch with this past year. Friends are very important and shouldn’t be thought of as a ‘class project’. I will now take time to put my family and friends first.

I have been keeping to my strength/cardio routine, but find that my weight hasn't taken the nose dive that I had hoped for, but I feel good and find that my clothes are fitting a bit looser.
All in all, this Spring term has been a great success.

If your clothes are fitting looser, you must be doing something right.....even
though the scales don't say anything ! Keep up the good job, and you will
be healthier, and feel healthier ! emoticon

You can find the team on my sparkpage, if you want to go and check it out. They have a challenge starting tomorrow that is for the O.W.L.s and N.E.W.Ts. Actually, I forget what kind of test those were in the books. I packed my books away and can't find them. It is a fun team. I'm on Hufflepuff. You can request what team you want to be on. I just said I didn't want on Slytherin. (might not have spelled that right. Oh, hope that isn't on the test! lol

Having a good day

Friday, June 25, 2010

Got up early and did most of my exercises before mom called me to get up for the day. Luckily she didn't want up too early.
Posted to my SP teams, helped with some laundry with my husband, watched Days of Our Lives and cried at Grandma (Gran) Horton's memorial service. (actually, watched while doing clothes until I started crying, he made me leave). One way to get out of doing clothes. lol

Just kidding, I went back and finished folding my clothes after the show.

What Summer Means To Me

Monday, June 21, 2010

Summer means warm weather, picnics in the park with family & friends, Swimming, long walks on the beach.

It means using our A/C instead of heat. It means my mom can sit outside on the walk and watch the squirrels play in the trees.

Living in Florida I should be able to do all these, but being a caregiver, leaves me a little limited. We use to have a pool when we lived at another house. That was very pleasant on hot days. Now just staying inside to keep cool.

I hope you and your Mom have a wonderful Summer Solstice and that y'all are able to get outside and sip on some wonderful iced tea or lemonade today! Your mother is so blessed to have such a wonderful daughter. Thank you for the example you are setting for me. I too will be a caregiver one day and I will remember you and your example!

Love,
Donna
