Breakfast Cookies and VitaTops combined

So I keep playing around with this recipe. I will get it perfected to the way I like, =).

So I used the vitatop pans www.vitalicious.com/vitatoppa

and made the hungry girl breakfast cookies into muffin tops! This picture is the ones I made for my husband. I added dried cranberries and almonds to his. I like my foods more basic, so mine are basically the same thing without the toppings.



I get a little obsessed with new recipes until I've tried a million variations. So I promise, this will be my last blog about this particular recipe! Until next time...

Update on the HG Breakfast Cookies

So I made another batch yesterday for my husband. I left out the protein powder because he doesn't like the taste of it. They turned out looking a lot closer to how hers look in her e-mail. I have no idea why adding just a bit of protein powder would make the cookies puff up. But they taste amazing, so I don't really mind how they look!

Hungry Girl Breakfast Cookies

So for my snack today I made Hungry Girl's breakfast cookies (see her recipe here : www.hungry-girl.com/girls/biteoutdet

I made them my own way, considering I'm pretty picky! But they are SO good! Definitely a great breakfast-on-the-go item. The fiber from the cereal makes it filling and the pureed peaches give it a sweet, but not too sweet, taste.

So I definitely recommend giving them a try! You can try her recipe exactly or be like me and adapt it to your own tastes.

My version : Makes 4 servings
140 calories ; 1g fat ; 46mg sodium ; 17g carbs ; 2g fiber ; 4g sugars, 12g protein

I used : 1/2 cup regular oats ; 6 tbsp whole wheat flour ; 1/4 cup Kashi Go Lean cereal ; 1/4 cup Splenda ; 5 tbsp pureed peaches ; 1/4 cup ff egg sub ; 1/2 tsp baking powder ; 1/2 tsp cinnamon ; 1/2 scoop protein powder ; 2 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk

I got the job!

I'm so grateful that both (my best friend) Tawnya and I were hired. We knew there were two positions and we really hoped and prayed that we would both get it!

Since last April we have been volunteering in the child care at our church. Only now, we're going to get paid for it! (While also still volunteering on Sunday mornings). It's not exactly full-time work, but it's certainly better than nothing! And it's great, especially for me, because it's in a place where I am comfortable and I pretty much already know what I'm doing! There are a few things that we don't know about, so that's kinda stressful. But we're slowly learning more and more.

Technically we found out over the weekend, but I was waiting for the confirmation call before I really said anything. It's so amazing to have a direct answer to my prayers. I also love that Tawnya and I get to be together most of the time. Sometimes we're with different age groups, but we're definitely the best when we're together. Our teaching styles completement each other very well.

Well that's all for now, I just wanted to do a quick update. I hope you all are doing well!

Brushing my teeth worked!

Girl scout cookies are usually really easy to say no to. I never have cash on me, so it's easy to just walk past them into the store. But my brother's girlfriend was selling them this year and my husband and I wanted to help her out So we bought a couple of boxes. However, that led me to eat six cookies yesterday! I stopped myself after that, but six cookies is over 400 calories. I was mostly bummed because there are so many other things I could have eaten, even sweet things, that would have been more filling and fewer calories!!!

I told my husband to hide the boxes from me, but this morning I woke up with this intense urge to seek them out. I haven't been tempted like this since before I started on Spark! I always hated when people said to chew gum or brush your teeth to get rid of a craving. It has never worked for me in the past. I always ended up eating whatever it was anyway, but then being mad because it had a hint of toothpaste taste. lol

So I discovered the true solution for me. A high protein meal and THEN brushing my teeth. I had a cup of Kashi Go Lean cereal, but that wasn't really cutting it. I can get to a very uncomfortabe fullness and I will still crave sweets. I was trying to talk myself out of looking for the cookies after breakfast when I thought to just go brush my teeth. And now, the craving is gone.

What? It worked??

What concerns me is how deeply I was craving those dang cookies! I have never had THAT much of a craving before. I didn't even like all of the kinds we got! But I know that samoas are my downfall. They just taste SO good. And apparently one is not enough!

What do you do when you're really craving something?

    I suppose there is no perfect answer, in the case of GS Cookies, buy them if you must and give them away. Camp Fire would let people buy boxes of candy and then they turn around and give it to soldiers-so it's a feel good thing not a deprivation. I get hung up on being deprived, Why me? Why can others eat cake and not me? Sounds ridiculous but it's how I feel at the time of the craving.

There is a new terrific book "Younger Thinner You Diet" by Eric R. Braverman, MD. He talks a lot about how our brain chemistry works and how what we eat or don't eat causes cravings. I have it out of the library right now, but I think I'm going to get myself a copy because it has great recipes plus a lot of really good solid information to keep at hand. I am making a food and beverage list from the book so I focus my mind on all the good things to eat and not dwell on the bad things...like GS cookies or in my case cupcakes!

I LOVE your before and after picture, that is motivation for me, that I can get my face looking good again! You look great!

    I try to drink a diet coke...S-L-O-W. I am also trying to break the soda habit but it is the lesser of the 2 evils. Most times it works I have had success of brushing my teeth...for me it is always 'trial and error".
I love how you took your pictures every month until you lost your weight. That is such a neat idea. Keep up the good work! You look great!
