When I joined Sparkpeople, 3 years ago, my goals were simply to lose weight and keep it off, have better mobility, and eat healthy. The number on the scale was all that really mattered, I would automatically be my goal size, then I could be more active. (first-then mistake).

Once I began losing weight, and dropped a clothes size, I became more energized and determined to meet my goals. As I became able to exercise for longer periods of time, I started enjoying it more, and feeling so much better afterwards. I enjoyed eating healthy foods too, both were becoming 2nd nature, and I enjoyed seeing changes in my body as well. This was a surprise benefit because I had never thought about seeing my waistline again, or toning my body. I never thought I would be at a level of exercise for those changes to occur. Amazing what just 10 minutes can turn into!

I finally believed I could really change my lifestyle once and for all, but I no longer wanted to wait to begin living my dreams, one of which was climbing Chimney Rock. We used to sit and look up the mountain while eating cheeseburgers and French fries, never believing we would see any more than that. I decided to finally create my dream board/vision collage. I started with our vacations and getaway’s, planning for them to be active, fun adventures, with some relaxation too, rather than food fests and inactivity. I went on the cruise, we played like kids at the Atlantis water park all day, swam with the dolphin (I fit into the wet suit – woo hoo!), fit into the airplane seat without having to ask for an extension (a miracle), and 1 year ago, we climbed Chimney Rock! We made it to the Chimney and beyond, all the way to the top, taking extra trails along the way. I exceeded this dream! Next month we’ll be re-visiting Seabrook Island, only this time we will explore it by bicycle, enjoying nature, and I’ll take a jog on the beach. I’m not a jogger, but I do want to jog on the beach. There are so many other things like just being able to see my toes again, being able to get down on the ground to plant flowers, and work with my DH making our home beautiful. I have updated my dream board/vision collage to reflect my new dreams, and remove those accomplished. This is an amazing tool, and I keep it posted on my Sparkpage where I see it regularly. It keeps me focused and challenged.

Each of us have goals we are reaching for. WHY? Why are your goals set where they are?

Because, by the grace of God, I’ve lost 50 lbs, and many poor habits, and I’ve gained a balanced, healthy lifestyle, spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I want to know God’s plan for me, to live on purpose, to give, share, help, and be a blessing to others, while being physically and spiritually fit to do so. I have many more dreams to fulfill, and I want to live life to the fullest with the stamina, strength and will to do so. I never realized what a true “healthy lifestyle” encompasses, but I’m getting the picture, and I have much more to learn. But I do know the key is inner peace, walking with God, accepting myself as God created me-just as I am, and living with a thankful heart.

I have to acknowledge having these feelings about being accepted “just as I am”, and our sending hymn today was “Just As I Am”. It was extremely moving as I pray regularly for discernment. This morning was just that, loud and clear, the megaphone I needed.
