I read that by the time u r in shape to run a 1/2 marathon, that 90% of the health value has been attained, and if u go on to train to run a full marathon, you will only increase 10%. SO, realize what a great thing u have done for YOU.
This information was in a documentary on PBS-TV NOVA about 12 unactive people, who trained 9 months to run the Boston Marathon. It was researched by TUFTS Medical School, where they had lung studies done, and fat testing, etc. so it was very detailed. After 5 months of training they ran the 1/2 marathon, and at 9 months they ran the full one. But, 90% of the value was achieved by 5 months.
