Life is what you make of it....

I just wanted to share how I came to realize that it was time to get healthy and become the person I dreamed I could be. I was sitting in a doctors office after having my 2nd knee surgery and my Doctor (bless him) looked at me and said "You know that your knee would heal a lot faster if you were not overweight." I know that most of you would have been outraged that someone you paid to see would say something so "rude" to you. But it was exactly what I needed to hear. Before that I had ...
Before that I had never thought of myself as overweight. I needed someone on the outside to point it out to me. I knew that I spent way too many nights sitting on the couch and that I had no energy, but never said "I am fat." That moment in time was an epiphany for me. I went home feeling sad, but when I sat down and thought about it I realized how limited my life was. I decided at that moment that I would begin to work on being a healthier person. I looked at my diet first. I made small goals such as eating more fruits and vegetables. I started to walk on my lunch breaks. Once my knee healed, I began to work out at a gym on a regular basis and continued to make goals. Next thing I knew I had lost 20 lbs, then 40 lbs. It has to be a concious decision you make for yourself. No one else can take this journey for you. If you decide to lose weight for someone else, it will not work. Concentrate on becoming healthy and the rest will follow and you will become the person you dream you can be.

People often ask how I lost the weight and I tell them Sparkpeople and one step at a time. Good luck everyone!

Luke: All right, I'll give it a try.
Yoda: No! Try not! Do or do not. There is no try.

Target Weight: 150 lbs

--STEPS TO TAKE:
Track my calorie intake, take my vitamin suppliments every day, and continue on my exercise regiment of cardio and strength training six days a week.

My Program:
30-50 min cardio 5-6 days a week (walking, jogging, eliptical, treadmill, belly dance, bicycle, cardio class).
45 mins-1 hr strength training 6 days a week on a three day split:
day 1: chest, sholders and triceps, day2 : Back, Traps, biceps, day 3: legs and abs.
I mainly follow a clean eating diet with lean proteins, whole grains, vegetables and fruits. I recommend "Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook" by Tosca Reno. I do give myself a cheat meal once a week when I am not in lean down phase for competition.

That's so cool that you competed in a bikini competition! That's my goal for 2011...maybe even near the end of this year if I can find a competition in California and an organization to join - which one do you belong to?? I'm trying to research to find the right one for me.
