The closest fast food restaurant is 20 miles away and the nearest shopping mall requires a 50 minute drive. Yes, it is slightly slower-paced, but a pace that I cherish.

I enjoy working in my vegetable garden, preparing new recipes, sewing, and walking in my woods with my canine companions, Roxie and Cassius. My children will tell you that I am fixated on eating meals together as a family at the kitchen table. This is often the only chance to connect and catch-up. It is a time to comfort the pains of the day and celebrate the joys of living.

I also admit that I am a techno-nerd. I do not Twitter. I cannot Facebook. Heck, I don’t even own a cell phone. However, I do enjoy connecting with others at Sparkpeople as we journey together to improve our health. So join me, as we:

Ignite our inner fire,
Fuel the blaze daily,
And spread the SPARK to others.

Nutritionally Yours, Dietitian Becky

Sparkpeople had two conventions this year. One in SanDiego and one in Cincinnait. Don't worry, more are being planned for 2010. It is great fun meeting all our Sparkmembers and being inspired by their adventures!

Becky,

I first want to start off by saying you have changed my life and my sisters life due to the spark convention. We live in rural area in Ohio and our up bring was very similar to yours. We grew up with all the right things and eating habits; however moving out of the house we lost our way and the correct way to now feed our families. We truly really listened to everything you said at the convention and my sister and I started feeding our family balanced meals.

I have never been so moved or touched but what you were saying was so true and has improved my family meals. I organized my refrig the next week after the convention and have kept that way since, I now don't waste food and everyone in the family is able to find what the need. Your suggestions were simple but what I needed to hear, I don't get mad at myself if we have to have pizza one night for dinner, I just make sure we also have a fruit, a vegetable, and a glass of milk-- all things we never did.

I could go on and on how you changed our life's, I just truly wanted to thank you and ask if you can point me in the correct direction. I want someone to review my calorie intake that SP has laid out for me based on my weight and height. I am only questioning it b/c I read may sp pages and blogs and mine just seems so high, I tried changing a few of the factors on sp to see if if would change. Thanks for the help and again thanks for reminding me of the tools on how to have a healthy balanced family meal.

love,
Timberlee

i agree. the only time i heard of a reputable person recommend diet pills, it was dr. oz, and only prescription diet pills to kickstart weight loss. my doc said that those aren't really so hot either though.
