My Journey
For as long as I can remember I've been the fat girl. As a young child I couldn't participate in sports etc. because I had horrible asthma (and lived with a smoker). I remember once seeing an old Oprah episode where she talked to people who had lost a lot of weight. They all looked horrible because they had so much extra skin. From that point on I thought looking good would be impossible. The smallest I've been in my adult life was in 2005 for my wedding - I was 161 lbs. 5 years ...
5 years and 2 kids later, I could still squeeze into my wedding dress, so I told myself I was doing ok. In 2010 I was sick for over 6 months and got basically no activity at all. I also ate a lot of ice cream in that time - it was my comfort food. Christmas 2010 the scale hit 185lbs, and I knew something had to change. A friend of mine had lost over 70lbs in a year and looked great, so I decided if she could do it, I could too. 2011 is my year. I will loose 40lbs, and reevaluate from there. It's hard to imagine going further than that because it's already smaller than I've ever been in my adult life. ****November 2011 Update***** Well, had things gone as planned, I would have reached my goal already. However, I've learned that weight loss is not liniar, and things don't always (often?) go the way I plan. THrough diet and exercise, I did loose 10lbs, but then I started having CFS symptoms again and had to stop pushing myself. I gained back 5lbs. I tried to stay active and keep better eating habits, but I still couldn't loose. In September I saw the movie Fat Head and it changed the way I thought about food and weight loss. I cut grians/starches/sugars from my diet. I started eating more fats. I know it goes against the spark plan (and everything I had understood about weight loss), but it's working. I'm now down under 170lbs, I've lost inches, I have energy, and most important, I don't have any CFS symptoms.
