My Journey

In Dec of 2007, I experienced the painful loss of my beautiful fifteen month old daughter to leukemia. I spent many months in a dark place, not really caring about the food I was eating or not eating, feeling lethargic, crying a lot, yet still trying to be a whole Mom to my 8 year old son.

I finally realized that I was in this slump in February and have since then made a personal commitment to myself for reclaiming my health. My main goal is to be more present in the moment with more energy. I have eliminated soda from my diet and have cut down dramatically on my caffeine intake. I am trying to incorporate more vegetables and fruit, while eating healthier meals. I hope to start an exercise program soon too.

Weight loss would be great, but really, I am hoping to gain more energy and to just be healthier all around. I have never really been successful at diet programs. I have about 20 pounds to lose, yet this time is different, something is sparking me to make these changes from deep within my soul and I am bound and determined to do it.

Give an overview of what you are doing to meet your goals.

I have eliminated soda and have cut back on snacking. I eat more whole foods, whole grains, and healthy oils, while limiting processed high carb meals.

I exercise with friends and have events which I am training for which help keep me motivated to continue on with my program.

Other Information:
"Some people come into our lives and quickly go.

Some people move our souls to dance, they awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom.

Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon, they stay in our lives for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the SAME!"

Flavia Weedn

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are.

Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart.

Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.

Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so.

One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return. ~Mary Jean Iron

I stopped by your page because we pretty much started Power 90 at the same time. Yay, us! I see where you eliminated Diet Coke! Congrats to you! I'm on Day 6 of my Diet Coke reduction plan and I think I'm going to be successful at, which I was never sure of when I started.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of you daughter - nothing can really heal that pain. I'm glad though that you are committing to yourself and your family and wish you great success with your goals.

Welcome to SparkPeople and to the Moving Forward Through Grief and Loss team. I have been behind and just stayed away from posting on the team for awhile. Looks like Iīm almost caught up for now. Our 15 yr old son was taken in death 10 yrs ago in December and I understand some of what you are experiencing in regard to your sweet baby and being a good mommy to your son. We have two other children and a beautiful daughter in law now. I miss my son every day and live with a pain that will always be there - at least I canīt imagine it going away completely. With time and determination, I have learned to live again, not the way it was before; everything has changed and I am not the same person I was before. You mentioned her birthday coming up on the 12th. Consider doing something in her name. I once bought a boy a car magazine he was enjoying - to honor my sonīs interests, without mentioning it to anyone. Have done other things too. These activities give me a place for the love to go, the love I will always have for him.
