Looking Good in February!!

Well, here it is already February,and I feel pretty good about the changes I have made to my eating habits. I have traded all fried meat for broiled or roasted, and have added more fresh vegetables and fruit to my diet. I really thought I would miss having my salty chips, but I have a dill pickle or green olives when I crave salty food. I tried the new Fiber One Brownie (90 calories) when I want gooey chocolate. Well, here it is already February,and I feel pretty good about the changes I have made to my eating habits. I have traded all fried meat for broiled or roasted, and have added more fresh vegetables and fruit to my diet. I really thought I would miss having my salty chips, but I have a dill pickle or green olives when I crave salty food. I tried the new Fiber One Brownie (90 calories) when I want gooey chocolate. If you haven't tried them, they are very good. The hardest thing for me is getting down 8 glasses of water a day. I have been walking 10 to 15 minutes at a time even when my back and legs really bother me. I know this is going to be a "forever" change, not just a lose 50 pounds and its over with change. So I will keep working at getting healthy and making good choices when it comes to diet and exercise. Happy February Everyone.

My Goals:
My number one goal is to get healthy and to get off some of the medication I have been taking for nerve damage caused by GBS. Losing weight along the way will hopefully relieve some of my back and hip pain.

Personal Information:
My husband Richard and I live in Ft. Mohave, AZ with our cat Jack and our 3 dogs Chloe, Abby, and Sophie. Richard and I both grew up in CA and went to high school together. We dated for several years and then lost touch for 30 years. We reconnected on Classmates almost 10 years ago and have been married going on 8 years.

Other Information:
I love to read mystery books by James Patterson and Lisa Gardner. One of my favorite characters is Jack Reacher by Lee Child. I have read almost all of Child's books. One of my favorite kinds of books is True Crime I also love NCIS, Glee, and NCIS LA.

Welcome to SP! I'm sure you will find lots of resources here to help you build a healthy and happy future. I also have a very rare and painful disease and an autoimmune condition. For years I was very inactive. Now, slowly, I'm finding ways to get more active without getting hurt. Most important thing is to never give up trying and always count calories. I started working on my weight loss plan on Saturday the 7th of January 2012. I didn't make a New Years resolution, because they never work. What I did is make a promise to the people I love to get healthy this year. I am a survivor of a very rare illness Guillain-Barre-Syndrome (GBS) that almost killed me 2 years ago. Many of the medications I take are know to make you gain weight. Yes I was heavy, but never more than 10 or so pounds. This I do for me and the people I love.

I have lost 4 pounds since last Saturday, but I just found SparkPeople 2 days ago. So far, I am just getting to find my way around the site. What I have enjoyed so far, are the recipes and that I only have to look in one place to find all kinds of great foods.

I am really looking forward to meeting people who are working to change their lifestyle and eating habits. Just one last thought, my GBS makes doing many exercises extremely difficult. I am able to walk around the block, but would love suggestions from anyone who also has an illness that makes exercise difficult.
