On April 30, 2016, I celebrated my 7th Sparkversary. I did start out at 183.7 lbs in 2009 and am presently 148.7 lbs. Over the years, Spark People has helped me with the following:

- I have become more aware of the importance of eating well and leaving junk food out of my diet.
- Exercise has become a routine for me.
- The need to sleep a minimum of seven to eight hours a night.
- The importance of staying active online because I am positive that I would have regained my weight if I had not continued on SP.
- The importance of food tracking on a daily basis.
- Soft drinks are no longer drunk in the household.
- Desserts are made for guests only and we don't miss it.
etc. (the list goes on)

Like many of you, I have had ups and downs over the course of this journey. I am presently overweight as per the BMI scale and I will continue my journey to reach my healthy weight.

The truth is that with the weight that I 'have' lost, I have found my self-esteem again and my willingness to continue this struggle. I even look forward to going out more and dressing up again because I can actually look better in the clothes that I have. That is a nice feeling... Truly, I will not go upwards again as I know what that feels like. Yes, with the weight on, I could still do a lot but my cholesterol was high and my BMI was on the obese side -- who's kidding who here?

I am 67 y.o. and never did envision myself being a heavy senior citizen. Looking at my December 2008 picture beside, it was obvious to me that it was time that I got myself moving again and by doing so, it has proven to be beneficial all-round.

I too love Sparks. I got hit by a truck an old man was driving and he was not competent he turned right into the driver's side of my car and hit the gas.Fortunately for me there was a police officer behind me so the ambulance and the firefighters with the jaws of life were there quickly. The damage done to me was extensive , my husband was in Bosnia and my daughter was 17 I was a quarter block from home she heard the crash, the paramedics told her I was a paraplegic. Thanks to an amazing physio and an orthopod that likes to experiment I can move on crutches but I do use a wheelchair too.My husband loves Sparks because it brightened my outlook and gave me something to look forward to ! I was not happy to be told I could no longer work .SO I throw myself into being the WL for the Underdogs and tell people who think they can't do it that they can. I do at least 120 min. of exercise a day (that is how I keep moving ,I can't feel my feet ) The kids think it is funny I leave my crutches when I weed my garden plop down on the ground and move around using my arms to propel me and my legs follow like a land crab ! I too have seen your name loads of places. How exciting to be in West Africa.A totally different spot.I had a friend who taught in Mozambique and my husband went on a photo safari but that is as close as I have got so I am sure you could teach me a great deal !I must congratulate you I think you do a fabulous job with Calling All Canadians ! Well I have blathered on,sorry.I will send a Sparkmail later about what we do on the Underdogs.Thank you for adding me as a friend !
