July 2016. I am 50 lbs lighter than I was in the beginning of 2014. I actually lost almost 100 lbs and have gained half of it back. I'm a type 2 Diabetic and my blood sugars are out of control. I need to get myself back to healthier eating and focus on controlling my blood sugars as well as my weight.

Hi. I'm Vickey, I'm a 59 yr old wife, mother and grandmother and I'm working on becoming a healthier me. When I started my journey with SparkPeople in 2008 I was 354.5 lbs. I was desperate, had tried every diet ever invented and then some. I couldn't afford to join the sites that cost money and then one day doing a search I found SparkPeople.

Today I am so grateful for SparkPeople. My journey has been slow and steady. I no longer diet but instead am developing healthy eating habits. I've encountered some ups and downs, even some pot holes recently. but through it all I've continued on and share SparkPeople with everyone I meet so it can offer others hope too.

My Goals:
Short Term Goals:
* chair exercise at least 3 times/wk.
* make a healthy choice at least 1x/day
* Track my food daily.
* Track my blood sugars and eat healthy.

Long Term Goals:
* Lower my weight by 100+ lbs
* Get fasting BS within 20 points of normal range.
* decrease chronic pain level


My Program:
My program involves no fad diets this time, just healthy choices & exercise including;

- avoid Stress eating
- eat more fresh fruits & veggies
- avoid processed foods
- watch the carbs & sugars
- get moving - chair excersises, stretching, whatever I can find that I can do.
- track what I eat



Personal Information:
I've been married 38 yrs & have two grown children (boy 36 & girl 31), and I'm the proud grandmother of a three wonderful grandaughters with one more on the way (due in October 2016).


Other Information:
Living with constant pain is extremely difficult and challenging. I have a habit of turning to crunchy / salty foods, such as chips. It is a habit I'm trying to replace with healthier choices.

    Wanna thank you for leaving me a comment on my page and yes were almost the same,
    and I knew I had to do something when I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2014 but @ that,
    time I wasn't sure of how to deal with mine....I thought it was a joke but it wasn't when it was,
    time to watch tv and I couldn't see it to turn it or read what the movie was all about so I,
    went to see the doctor and that is when she put me on Metformin 2 x a day and now I am down to 1 x a day since my numbers have come down with eating better and healthier & drinking lots of water instead of sodas...I quit sodas a while back and now I don't even care about them sodas any more yah for me.
