EDIT - I was diagnosed in April 2011 with Hypothyroidism. I have a dieing thyroid :(
Once upon a time I was thin, and I took it for granted. Of course I was also only a teenager! When I was 24 I got pregnant with my first child. I was extremely excited about this and very afraid at the same time. The last thing I wanted to do was lose my baby. So I did what any first time mother would do. I ate everything i wanted to make my baby happy. It wasn't until later i realized that those whole cheesecakes were rougly 4000 calories, and those Chipotle burrito's that I got everything on were around 1200 calories. Needless to say... I went from a size 6 to a size 14 by the time I gave birth to my 6lb 10oz baby. I was certain she was going weigh 40 pounds and break a record. Over the course of around 16 months I lost roughly 25 pounds, which put me around 150ish. Not too bad, but certainly not where i wanted to be! At around 16months, I got pregnant with my second child. This one wasn't planned and she didn't get any special treatment while I was pregnant with her. In fact, I ate more salads with her as i feared I would balloon back up to 190 like I did with her older sister. However, I gave birth to her at 175, and after all was said and done, i went right back down to 155. When my marriage started to really take a turn for the worse (about a year after baby #2) I decided that I was tired of feeling, looking, and being fat. I was only around 10 pounds from an ideal weight range for my age/height, but I wanted to look like i did before I had kids, which meant losing around 30 pounds. It was simple too. All i had to do, was cut out sugars from my diet. This meant I had to quit eating certain foods -- high sugar foods such as potatoes, rice, bread, pasta and corn. After all ... these are starchy foods and starches are sugars. I would eat sandwhiches maybe twice a week, and I would use only whole-wheat bread. But overall, most of my meals consisted of lean meats, and vegetables. Exercise was "minimal" as I really didn't go out of my way to do it. I worked in a restaurant where I had to walk a lot anyway for my job I also took advantage of down time.... I would do laps around the kitchen. Within roughly a 1 month period I lost 20 pounds. I maintained this weight too for about 6 months. Then I just started eating. It started coming on slowly. Then I decided it was time to quit smoking, which was a New Years resolution. And a good one! I have a very supportive boyfriend who was there for me and helped me in every way. He bought me my first lozenges. I started in July, and finished in September. It's been around 18 months and I am still smoke free and plan to stay that way for the rest of my life. However...As i was getting down to 2 lozenges a day I figured this was completely stupid. Why keep taking them as it keeps putting nicotine back into my body? So... we got some candy. Lots of it. I figured I could just suck on these hard candies and it would work as a placebo. One thing I had on my mind while i was quitting smoking was I was giving up this evil, why not indulge in something else? And that something else was food! As it stands... I went from 130 pounds, in a size 4, all teh way up to 190 pounds, size 14-16, and I'm not even pregnant this time. This is literally the largest I have ever been, and it's all my own fault for eating anything and everything I want, and then overeating until I'm 'Thanksgiving' full, and then eating some more. I gave up smoking to something just as equally dangerous... a food addict. I think I could live with being a food addict if all I ever wanted to eat were cucumbers, bell peppers, and tomatoes, but as it is I usually want pasta's covered in cream sauce, or sandwhiches with huge french rolls. Oh and lets not forget fried foods! But my number one weakness is laziness, plain and simple. I'm a lazy person. I don't like doing the dishes. In fact i hate it. I've been made to wash dishes since I was age 5 or 6 because I was the girl. Now that I am a parent myself, and I don't want to do that to my own girls, I find that ordering carry-out is so much cleaner. It is not uncommon for us to order Pizza Hut's pasta's more than once a week. Or the subs from Domino's twice a week. I do some cooking, afterall we buy an absurd amount of plastic spoons, forks, cups, and plates. So it is my goal to get into a habit of cooking healthier, and just getting over the damn dishes and washing them. Really wish I had a dishwasher!
EDIT - I got a Dishwasher for Mother's Day.
My goal is to get back into my size 4's. I would also like to become an OCD cleaner so I always have a clean home. ;) I would like to learn tasty new recipes (and healthy!) that i can feed my family so that i can secretly and successfully put them on a diet as well.

Well I live in Minnesota but it's not where I'm from. Lets just say -omfg- it SNOWS here. And a lot of it! It's just halfway through January and we've already gotten 52 inches this years and that is supposed to be a yearly average!

Hi There: I wanted to answer your question about the food pictured on my blog: turkey patty on top of fresh baby spinach, 1/2 sliced pear, cooked sliced carrots, and part of a Green Giant veggie/barley that you can microwave from the freezer. Hope that helps.

You can do it - you've done it before so you do know what you need to do, right? I'd say cutting back on the fast food might be not too hard to do...and it is kind of fun washing dishes as a family - not a terrible thing for a kid to learn to do either. We have a dishwasher but I almost wish my kids had the experience of washing dishes. Neither has...but I bet when they are out on their own they won't necessarily have a dishwasher in the first place they rent. And noone wants their kids living on a diet of fast food, right?
So you have come to the right place! For myself, my hypothyroid symptoms completely disappeared with increased exercise and healthier diet. Metabolism before and after like night and day. Hoping for the same for you!

I also saw your post on the thyroid thread. After reading your story, I can idenify with everything except the children. I still have the only size 4 capris I ever bought and would love to get back into them. I lost 55 lbs and was at my goal of 129 and it was heaven. Then I think the untreated hypothyroid combined with giving up the smoke and I gained a ton. Trying so hard to get back down now and doc is trying to determine the optimal synthroid dose for me. Just started 75mcg on Tuesday.
