Some of my greatest blessings call me Gramma

This is what I looked like when I started the journey. Who knew that even our faces would look fat?

Whoo Hoo! I never thought I could do this. But look at me, I am doing it.

I have 6 pics in my gallery

the best is yet to come; I am not overwith yet.

I am now down 30 pounds. My is goal to get into the healthy weight for my body that is posted in all those weight loss charts. The top end of that is 148 pounds, I still have a ways to go. Maybe eventually I will even be at the weight I was at my wedding 125. One step at a time, we shall see.

I lost the weight that I have lost by doing nothing more than using a nine inch plate or smaller, and walking. That's it. Walking is a harder goal to maintain than the smaller plate, because of the weather. I ride a stationary bicycle on days the weather will not cooperate.

I joined sparkpeople in Dec of 2007. It took me almost 6 months of being a part of sparkpeople before I saw the weight start to release from my body. I had to let go of some old paradigms in my brain. I had to learn to see that I was actually in need of losing weight. In short I had to retrain my brain.

I used the LDS Church Addiction Recovery Book and the book He Did Deliver Me From Bondage, by Colleen Harrison to work through the issues of emotional eating.

The following are my favorite quotes to keep me motivated:
########################################
####
My diet is more than a wish; it is a promise to God.. I promise to take care of my body and He promises to bless me to "run and not be weary and walk and not faint". He promises I will be able to find "hidden treasures" of knowledge. What better promise than that? :-)

I want to keep my body as fit and healthy as I can so that the Lord can use me to serve his other people for as long as I can.

I have liked the following poem since I was a child. I guess I have always known that I would be a late bloomer.

Fairy pencilings a faint design
And the fern's life lay in every line.
So I think God hides some souls away
Sweetly to surprise us at the last day." Author unknown
(I want to be that sweet surprise)

I am 52 years old. I watched my Mother grow old before her time. She is now 76 years old, but compared to most other 76 year olds she seems much, much older. She went gray early. She is comfortable with her choice, in fact she believes she has no choice. but I want a better choice for myself. I am not my mother. I also have some of my Dad in me. He is currently fighting cancer, and I mean fighting. He is doing all he can to stay alive. I want to be more like him, and yet even then, I am not him. I look at the choices my parents have made, and I can make my own choices.

I believe that that men will be punished for their own sins and not their parent's transgressions. I will be judged by the choices I make and not the choices my parents have made. I look at the choices they made. Did those choices suit them well? I can learn from them and make better choices for myself.

Thoughts from the book
"YOU staying young-The Owner's manual for extending your warranty"
by Michale Roizen MD & Mehmet Oz MD

Longevity is not whether or not you break, it is how well you recover and repair when you do.

If you perform a good habit for three years, the effect on your body is as though you have done it your entire life. Even better, you can start to measure a difference on your body in three months!

Living longer is not about taking longer to die, it is about enjoying every moment of a longer life- it is taking longer to live.

Genetics loads the gun, but your lifestyle pulls the trigger.

I found this quote on sparkpeople
"The physical decline associated with aging is not simply the result of getting older. In many respects its the result of becoming less active as we age," Dean Anderson, sparkpeople trainer.

The old adage, use it or lose it, is more true as we age.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Habit isn't about acts of heroism. It's about establishing a consistent, almost automatic pattern of behavior over time. Much of the challenge of successful self-discipline is throttling your enthusiasm so you don't burn out. Keep the focus on meeting some clearly-defined, rigorously un-ambitious daily "good enough."

"Sustainability" is the buzzword of the moment when applied to macro issues of agriculture or energy. But it's just as important with respect to your purely personal habits of eating, moving, spending, and getting things done. Overdoing it is a far bigger danger than under-doing it -- because it inevitably results in your not doing anything at all. Sustainability has to be the first thing you consider when evaluating a habit you want to acquire - not the afterthought it usually is.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
From the book, "The Low GI Diet Revolution" by Drs. Jennie Brand-Miller, Kaye Foster-Powell, Joanna McMillan-Price

"the success of our eating plan should not be measured by the amount of weight or the inches lost, but the extent to which your lifestyle has changed for the better."

Maintenance is not the time to relax and let down your guard, and it certainly is not the time to stop excercising. If anything, this stage- preventing weight gain- is the most critical of all. It is going to take AT LEAST TWELVE MONTHS of persistant effort to convert old eating and lifestyle patterns into a new and healthy one.

Many people mistakenly believe tht once the desired weight is lost, the hard part is over. Before they know it, they have regained the weight they lost, OFTEN IN LESS TIME THEN THEY TOOK TO LOSE IT- AND WITH ADDED "INTEREST"

Research shows that our bodies remember the previously higher weight and strives to attain it again.

At your new weight you are a smaller engine, therefore your body requires less fuel to run on, and if you lost weight too rapidily and without excercising then the chances are you also lost excessive amounts of muscle, making your engine size smaller and with even less fuel needed.

Characteristics of long-term weight losers
they engage in high levels of physical activity

They usually go on a brisk walk and often include weight lifting

They use a pedometer

They continually monitor total amount of food eaten

They eat a reduced-fat, low-glycemic carb, diet

They frequently self-monitor their diet and activity levels.

From the book, "If Life is a Game, these are the rules," by Cherie Carter-Scott, PH.D

The body you are given will be yours for the duration of your time here on earth. Love it or hate it or reject it, it is the only one you will receive in this lifetime. It will be with you from the moment you draw your first breath to the last beat of your heart. Since there is a no-refund, no-exchange policy on this body of yours, it is essential that you learn to transform your body from a mere vessel into a beloved partner and lifelong ally , the relationship between you and your body is the most fundamental and important relationship of your lifetime. It is the blueprint from which all your other relationships are built.

Acceptance is the act of embracing what life presents to you with a good attitude

Your body may teach you the lesson of self-esteem by testing your willingness to view yourself as worthy, regardless of what you look like or how your body performs.

It is your responsiblity to become acquainted with your body's individual requirements. No one diet works for everyone, nor does one sleep or excercise regimen. True respect comes from learning what your body needs to run on optimum performance and then making the commitment to honoring those needs.

Some quotes that have helped me along this journey.

Our ability to withstand temptation is grounded in our continual submission to the will of God.

"I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go," Abraham Lincoln

To respect your body means to hold it in high regard and honor it. Respect is treating your body with the same care you would give any other valuable and irreplaceable object. Learning to respect your body is vital. Your body is your vehicle for life. As long as you are here, live in it, love it, honor it, and cherish it, treat it well and it will serve you in kind.

***************************************
Losing weight is like viewing the principles of faith in Alma 32 in living color. It is not enough to believe the weightloss principles will work, we have to actually do them to see results.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No one, after they return home from their morning walk ever says, "I wish I didn't go out on that walk today."
The Lord will not abandon me. I must not abandon myself.- Wyboyak SP penname.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The best excercise are the ones that you will do
To eat and not excercise is to gain weight!!!
No one wants to gain the weight that our bodies have released. That is the motivation for maintainance.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I look at the hunger I feel sometimes between meals as my body eating itself thin
Act the part. Do I act like a thin person???
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I will accept myself as I am right now. If I can't lose weight, at least I will try very hard not to gain anymore weight.
I'll know better why I am dieting after I am done.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but pray for abilities equal to your tasks. Then the performance of your tasks will be no miracle, but you will be the miracle. - Thomas S. Monson
No one can go back and make a brand new start, but anyone can start from today and make a brand new ending!!!
"***************************************
Have you given your 100% today? Satan has, so get out there and work like Hell
Satan is just angry that you have a body and he doesn't, and so he's trying to make you destroy yours.
when Satan tries to remind you of your past (sins, failures, slip ups, whatever), remind him of his future.
A hero isn't someone who has more courage than the rest of us. A hero is someone who was brave five minutes longer than the rest of us.
When the going gets tough, hang in there five minutes longer.
Courage doesn't always roar, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow."
Courage isn't always the absence of fear. Sometimes courage is moving forward in the face of fear.
I can do anything for 15 minutes
I am aware of your weaknesses, but I love you because of your strengths, and I will magnify your strengths in the eyes of your peers.
If you don't have time for prayer and scripture study, you are busier than God ever intended you to be. (This can also be said for eating healthy and excercising)
Act upon every good intention.
You are where you are for a reason. The people you associate with, are the very people God wants you to serve. They are also the people God has sent to teach you the lessons that you need to learn.
You can see the good in others, because of the good that you have in yourself.
Every action has a consequence. Whether or not the consequence is a curse or a blessing depends upon the action. We are free to chose our actions, but we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions.
********Patience********
"Many of the most wonderful experiences we can have in the course of human existence require us to wait before achieving gratification. Patience is hailed as a virtue precisely because it provides us with access to what cannot be enjoyed without first proving our staying power.
When we are willing to wait so that we may determine how best to proceed, we are less apt to rush through decisions that will have an impact on the quality of our lives.
Challenges that might otherwise test our endurance pose no difficulties if we are more interested in bringing about a positive conclusion than courting a speedy one."
