Why I'm here

Hi! I'm Steve a 63 year-old RETIRED High School teacher. I have a son and daughter and another daughter. My youngest daughter heavily involved in raising my two granddaughters.

I started a weight-loss program with a starting weight of 233...current weight 235+.

I'm good at visualization: I can see myself looking like I want to look. I do work towards the vision...then, CRAP, I for no apparent reason begin to undo what I 'just done'. I know that somewhere ...

I'm good at visualization: I can see myself looking like I want to look. I do work towards the vision...then, CRAP, I for no apparent reason begin to undo what I 'just done'. I know that somewhere inside of me - there's a better Me.



One of the rewards of getting older is you can slow down. Sometimes its at your chosen pace, other times your body makes those choices. That's what happened to me. Osteo-arthritis came first. It took up residence in my shoulder and knee. Then came torn and worn cartilage. Quickly followed by a knee arthroscopy, then physical therapy.
Here's the real bite: I could've avoided most of the pain and surgery had I dropped the weight when I first noticed what was going on. Yep, I've had two O.D.'s tell me that.
So now the weight loss is to help with the healing and lessening the discomfort.

My Program:
More realistic!
Setting short-term achievable goals.
G1 - Attitude adjustment. Begin EVERY day with a positive attitude mantra. Do not waste my time with problems, but enjoy the challenge of opportunities.
G2 - lose 3 pounds a week.
G3 - walk as much as possible. Create a walking environment at work.
G4 - Eat Clean (foods close to the ground)
G5 - Be around positive people.

Personal Information:
I live in the SW Missouri Ozarks, with my wife and cattle dog. We all reside in a comfortable 101 year old two story Carthage stone home, now being slowly remodeled.

Other Information:
"Can't & Tomorrow belong to the losers."

I'm still looking for that 'higher power'. I'll look over behind the sofa.

Hey Spark'in Minion! ( O-O )

WHAAAT? 's up with you? How's your November going so far?

Me? Oh, I've been very busy with family visiting from Germany and my daughter making the varsity basketball team. Although I have been very bad at reading blogs and responding, I have not fallen off the wagon, even if it means walking my miles on the treadmill in front of the TV from 10:00 pm - 12:00 am each night they have been getting done.

I've got my fingers crossed - Hoping to reach the 170's sometime this week. Only 6 lbs left to reach my 175 lbs mini goal by Thanksgiving and walk into my surgeon's office to hand him his I'm grateful for YOU card....

Hi Steve thanks for your note at my sparkpage. Took some time off to slow down. Am slowing down my weight loss to 1 lb per week, more realistic, and feel better about that. Doing alright! Moved to Conway, my old college, will audit class or classes in Jan. Very happy about that. My biggest battle is with sleep--my sleeping pill makes me high and makes me eat at night. Trying hard to figure it out. sarah

Good Monday Morning! Krys here, stopping by to wish you a week full of good choices, exercise, and ounces and ounces worth of crystal clear water. How are things going for you this colorful month of October? Here in Florida, the weather has been bouncing between the low 90's and the mid 80's which is pretty typical for this time a year. Do you have any fall festivities planned for this month? My family and I are always very involved in Halloween and fall festivities so I have not been Sparking as much as I would like. The first costume party occurred this weekend and was very enjoyable, I posted some pictures of me and my husband in costume. Even in my absence, my family of Sparkers is never far from my thoughts, so I wanted to send you some "you can do it" motivation and check in.

I am cheering for you!
