I am a retired teacher and couch potato. Well, no. I am trying to retire from my potato job. I look okay, but I don't feel so great. I have 20 - 25 lbs. to lose and I haven't gotten started yet because I am waiting until I get organized - till I get around to it. I have a triangular to it, but no rounds yet. Meanwhile, my sister is being spectacularly healthy and active, which makes me feel worse - probably why she does it. Maybe some sibling rivalry will kick in if I work this program. Look ...

Look over your shoulder, Makulewahine, someone's gaining on you. The truth is, she really inspires me.

I've been gone from my Sparkpage for a while, but still have been actively changing my life style. I am close to my goal and I may even go lower if it works out. I am so grateful for the kind of support I receive from you and other sparkers. Mahalo for hanging in there! Let me know how you are doing... I went back for nearly 3 weeks to Honolulu and still lost an additional 5 1/2 lbs.! Looking good. emoticon

Yeah I know what you mean about overinflated expectations. I volunteered to do "Locks for Love" - I think that's what it's called. You give your hair an they make it into wigs for cancer patients who can't afford them. I can do that, no prob. I've got six months to spare. Yeah, right, it's more like two years or so.

I always wore very long hair when I was younger, so I'm trying to look at this as a return to my youth. emoticon

How are you doing? Thanks for keeping in touch. It's important to me to hang with like minded people like yourself on similar quests, It's been nearly two months since starting Take Shape for Life using Medifast meal replacements and I've lost 22.3 pounds. Wowee! But it's taking me so much longer than I ever imagined. I guess in my head I expected to lose weight as fast as I gain!! Somehow that doesn't seem to work that way. I am so stoked for you that you are loving your body the way that you do. I know about how balance is so important. For the first two weeks I did not do my Zumba and after losing just 9 pounds, when I went back to Zumba, my balance improved immensely. Keep up the exercise...that's treating yourself with respect. Mahalo!!

Hey, SmartDonna. Good timing. I just started back today. My diet still sucks - my girlfriend and I are going to start a program next week with the help of Sparks. But my activity level has gone way up. Some stuff is academic or needlework, but I'm also doing weight training, tai ch`i, and horseback riding. They all complement each other and I can see one improve because of something I learned in another unit. I've been going to an Impact gym that uses the TRX (something like that) equipment, which is very focused on one muscle at a time, so I started feeling the effects right away and my balance has just soared.

I am blessed with highly educated teachers who love their work and are constantly studying for improvement. And the classes are small so they can spend the time focusing on each person.

I was doing zumba earlier and I agree that it is fun.

Meanwhile the ice cream vendor follows me around knowing I can't hold out long. There's the problem. The exercise stuff is fun, but limiting food is a drag.

Came by to tell you thanks for keeping in touch. I just returned to Sparkpeople and as of today just started a Medifast adventure. I've gotten healthier by exercising but I have this desire to be thinner and more flexible. I love Zumba but my joints don't feel the love.
How are you doing? Here's hoping you'll check in soon. Mahalo!
