I've been making small lifestyle improvements over a period of more than 10 years. Looking back over my life I realize that I can thank good genes for getting me as far as I am! I don't think I've EVER really lived a healthy lifestyle. Even when I was thinner or in better shape or both I got there by some really sketchy means. No, I was never bulimic, just never ate healthily when I was getting thin or staying thin. I smoked for many years. I still drink more alcohol than I should, though I am MUCH improved over my past.
I am a realist. I'm not interested in temporary fixes; however, I will only make permanent changes that are convenient and relatively painless. Great habits and routines have to be doable or they don't get done.
My progress so far:
~ Quit smoking
~ Cut alcohol consumption by 90%
~ Upped my water intake from almost none to just about enough
~ Cut my stress and anxiety levels enormously
~ Found the healthiest food lifestyle and will follow it for life
~ Improved the quality of the food I buy
~ Lost 35 pounds pretty easily
~ Worked many small fitness routines into my lifestyle
~ Improved my thyroid health
~ Routinely getting enough sleep
~ Creating a better work/life balance
~ Losing 30 pounds of fat
~ Becoming truly active in the Primal Blueprint spirit!
I've never liked making goals, because once you reach them you just have to make new ones. Therefore I now have Intentions, rather than Goals. I mean, you can have Goals and never, ever work towards them. Intentions, on the other hand, imply a little more action, though not necessarily in any specific timeframe. Suits me to a T! My intention is to Be Happy and Live Long and Well.
I'm permanently low carb. I am well nourished without much of the empty calories of grains, starches, or sugars. I feel better in most ways than I ever had in the past!
I am trying to be more active, as opposed to being an "exerciser". Exercise for its own sake bores me, therefore I won't do much of it. A few minutes a week of light weights, a lot of walking and running stairs while at work, and household upkeep will have to do me.
59, happily married, two terrific sons and two adorable cats. Love me some video games!

good luck on your fitness challenge! not sure if you are familiar with Leslie Sansone, but i love her (and she's a yinzer from New Castle). you can get all sorts of her walk at home videos on youtube for free, and many of them are only like 15 minutes long, if you are looking for any short, easy-to-do-at-home workouts.

Slowly, but surely, is a good thing! I'm doing ok - staying strong. I'm a warrior, lol. I'll be ok. Doing well on the food-front, just need to get the gym thing going.
