Life is the journey, wellness is just part of the daily routine. Thanks, FlyLady!

What positive changes can you make this month that you will do for the rest of your life?

I've been making small lifestyle improvements over a period of more than 10 years.

Why so long? First, and foremost, I'll only make permanent changes that are convenient and relatively painless. Great habits and routines have to be doable or they don't get done.

My challenge (and yours as well, dear reader) is to make it more difficult to make bad wellness choices than it is to make good ones. My progress so far:

~ Quit smoking.
~ Cut alcohol comsumption by 80%.
~ Upped my water intake from almost none to more than enough.
~ Cut my stress levels enormously.
~ Found the healthiest food lifestyle and will follow it for life!
~ Lost 25-30 pounds effortlessly.
~ Worked fitness into my lifestyle without becoming a slave to the treadmill.

What's left? Not much, really.

I need to improve the QUALITY OF MY FOOD CHOICES. Organic and locally grown foods are the next big target: for my family's sake in general, but even more for my DH, who is suffering from some undiagnosed food allergy that is becoming increasingly more hazardous to his health and life.

I still like to stay up too late and shortchange myself on SLEEP. I've never found a way to do this right, but that doesn't mean it's not doable. Just that I need to figure it out.

I need to add cardio activity. Meh. I'll get to it.

Forward!

My Goals:
Body fat is like dust; it comes and goes every day and you just have to keep after it or it builds up and makes you unhappy.

Someday I'll cross the threshold from Obese to Overweight at 191.

Maybe someday I'll reach my tracker goal of 172, which is an arbitrary number at best.

I doubt that I'll ever get back into the Normal range, because by the charts I would need to be under 160, which, at my age, is kind of unlikely. Meh. Not a big deal.

My Program:
I'm permanently low carb. It's what our bodies love to be nourished with. And that's a good word for it. By not eating much in the way of grains, starches, or sugars, I feel better nourished than I ever have in the past.

Exercise is part of life. I won't waste my time at a gym, I have real things to do!

Most of my exercise gets done in little bits during the work day. I get in about 40 minutes of walking per day, isometrics at my desk (and at home), running flights of stairs at work, and basic squats/pliés and standing crunches. I do 10 pound weights for arms and shoulders. Gonna get those "Sarah Connor" arms!

Personal Information:
55, married, two sons in high school. Love me some video games!

6-If you get kidney stones that are from oxalates, reduce your green veggie intake (spinach for example) and have other types of veggies.

7-If you get kidney stones that are from urate salts, you are likely NOT following a low-ish carb paleo diet, you likely have insulin resistance and your liver is not processing uric acid.

As you know, I do not eat a lot of greens, and I DO follow a low carb-ish Paleo diet. Of course I am also insulin resistant, and do not process uric acid well, which is why I am worried about both diabetes and gout, when I add carbs, and cut protein.

I think diabetes and gout are linked, whether directly, or through the use of diuretics/pills, I am not sure. I know that it has been 14 mos. since my last attack. Most of the time I have been on low carb.

The article does not mention protein as a source of kidney stones at all.

I knoooooooww... it'd been like 10 days since I lost a pound.. and then in three days I lost 7 pounds.. go figure.. I've seen the same trend since I've been really focused.. at one point I gained 3lbs one week and lost nothing the next.. hen the next two weeks I lost 8lbs and 6lbs.. CRAZY.. but.. I just keep plugging along.. knowing that I'm building muscle.. plus the hormones.. regardless, HALLE-FREAKING-LUJAH!
