Me in my sexy new blond wig!
The REAL Me!
I'm 58, and was looking to improve my health and lengthen my lifespan by losing a tremendous amount of weight and becoming more fit. Over the course of years, I've probably lost and regained more than 600 pounds. So, I had a long ways to go, and there were many changes along the road. I was determined to really DO IT this time.
Well, the determination has paid off. I had bypass surgery on March 2, 2009, and as of 21 months later, I'm down nealry 140 pounds. I'm two pounds LESS than my surgeon's goal for me (170#) but I'd really like to weigh 160 or even less, so we'll see where I end up. It's been an incredible high to try on clothes and have them fall off of me and having to give them to charity. Even going to the store is an adventure, because I'll pick up a size that I think I'll fit into, and when I try it on, it's too big! What an amazing thing. Right now, I'm in a state of shock, because I'm actually right this minute wearing a size TEN pair of designer jeans called "Seven" that my daughter gave me because she didn't like the style. I think I skipped right over a size 10 on the way up! OMG!! That is amazing!! AND.... I got my first ever stuff from Victoria's Secret!! I'm in HEAVEN!!!
I want to get out from under the pain. ACCOMPLISHED May 2010!
I want to be able to walk up and down the stairs like a normal person. DON'T THINK THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN - NEED TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENTS :-(
I want to be able to walk around the block without being out of breath. GOAL REACHED!!
I want to be able to fit into clothing I don't have to buy out of a catalogue. -- GOAL REACHED! Now wearing size 10-12 pants and size 12 blouse!! My daughter even bought me some stuff from Victoria's Secret for Christmas!!
I want to be able to exercise and become more fit. WORKING ON IT DAILY!
Beginning October 2008, I started a "fast track" program that would allow my insurance (Cigna) to authorize me for Gastric Bypass Weight Loss Surgery. I had to see my PCP and a registered dietician monthly for three months, doing a supervised weight loss program. I had to lose an unspecified amount of weight prior to the surgery, along with having many tests and consultations with other specialists. I had to follow the dietician's eating plan, which was very different from anything I'd ever done before. It was eating 6 small meals per day, consisting of 75% protein and 25% carbs. I had to eat within an hour of getting up, and within an hour of going to bed. That felt so strange to me. I was definitely NOT a breakfast person! But, I lost 27 pounds! At first my insurance denied the surgery... but two days later they approved it, after calls from not only my PCP, but also the insurance person in my surgeon's office!
I have lived in Denver, Colorado since 1986, but was born and raised in Southern California.
I am a pagan, specifically following the Dianic path of women's spirituality. I create ritual to heal myself, my family, my community, and the world. I believe that The Goddess is emmanent in all things.
I love to read, and if I had my choice, that is what I'd do all day long. I like to read biographies, historical fiction, intrigue, and comparative religion books.
