This is my renewed attempt at participating in SP. I am trying to lose a minimum of 20 pounds, but ideally I'd like to lose 50 pounds. I take medication for a thyroid deficiency and I suffer from migraine headaches. These factors have contributed to my weight gain. I don't feel like I eat more than the average person does, in fact it seems I actually eat LESS; however, I think tracking my food will teach me how to be conscious of what I put into my body, how much, and what effect it will have on me. I'm looking forward to working towards my goals and meeting other enthusiastic and supportive folks who are working towards similar goals.

I play women's ice hockey. Currently, we are a mostly all-women's team playing in a coed (mostly all-men's) league in Raleigh. I've been playing for 7 years now. I stopped playing for a year because of migraines and that is when I gained this 20-30 pounds. (I was playing at least 3 times a week previously).

Update 1/16/2009: After a 6-week bout of migraines last summer I've made some changes to my life and my diet. I moved back to Raleigh. I now have a mold-free sweet apartment that I share with my fiance. I started going to a chiropractor who recommended that I stop eating wheat. I have been wheat (and gluten) free for 4 months now and the headaches have mostly ceased. I have also stopped eating dairy (especially cheese and eggs), even though they are an excellent source of protein and calcium. These two restrictions have pushed me to start cooking more at home. I subscribe to several vegetarian/vegan and gluten free cooking blogs. I've been enjoying it so far.

My biggest challenge is Coca Cola. I simply must have some with breakfast, but I'm working on waning myself off of them at lunch and dinner. Luckily I work in a lab, so no drinks are allowed at my desk. Also, I do little things like forget to put my coke in the fridge when I get to work because I hate warm coke. At night I put my glass of coke out of site, so I will forget about it while I am eating my yummy meals. Every little trick helps!
