I think of myself as a regular yet lazy exerciser - not meaning that I don't work my butt off when I do decide to workout but a lot of the time, when I am home from work, a cold beer, a good book or movie, and lazing by the pool sucks me into their tangled, pudgy web but about twice a week I force myself into a Turbo Fire dvd or a 90 minute ashtanga yoga session. This, along with regular belly dancing practice has given me a lifestyle that keeps me muscular yet fluctuating around 160 lbs. on my 5'1" frame. Being a belly dancer, I would tell myself I didn't mind the extra jiggle - that it enhances the allure of my shimmies! However, this year I got real with myself I realized that being overweight is not truly who I am, or how I feel on the inside. (Ever look in the mirror and find yourself completely shocked by your appearance?) I have the desire to really discover the real me and not hide behind the extra junk. I'm not going to be the cute, chubby little girl anymore. Time to grow up and become the best woman I can be!
I am focused on eating healthier day by day, incorperating lots more veggies into my diet. I love veggies anyway so, for me, it's just a matter of pre-planning to make sure the veggies are conveniently ready for me to grab on the go! My goal is to complete the TurboFire/P90X hybrid schedule, increase my yoga practice to become more flexible, strong, and grounded, thereby decreasing the need for alcohol and to eat emotionally. I also want to keep up my 5k training and complete another 5k race. My goals center around improving my performance abilities as a belly dancer - becoming lean, strong, flexible and skilled - but most of all becoming as healthy as can be in the process!
I am doing the Turbo Fire/P90X hybrid schedule from Beachbody.com. I love doing workout dvd's at home!
My goal is to become a morning exerciser so that I can complete the Beachbody workouts in the AM and keep up with my 5k training after work, as well, as my belly dance practice and yoga.
Belly dance practice with my troupe, Wild Routes, twice a week plus drills on my own 2-3 times per week, including zils, shimmies, undulations, and floorwork. Also, working on solos this year! Yikes!
I am very passionate about the belly dance and 2012 will be my 5th year with Wild Routes. I am so proud of what we have become and I will continue to work tirelessly to improve my skills so I can be an asset to my troupe. I think 2012 will be a great year for us! By the way, we are available for parties! :p
I joined a CSA program to help me with my veggie intake. I am loving finding new and simple and tasty recipes for things like chard and mizuna. I'm lovin' the veggie
