I'm not new to trying to lose weight. I was pretty successful 15 years ago when I lost 35 pounds and worked out daily, sometimes 2x a day! Then, my motivation was channeling all the pain and difficulty of a divorce. Today, 15 years later, I'm happily remarried and loving my life. I have a terrific job, a fantastic marriage, friends, family, and a lot more to accomplish before I die. I'm 53 now and I'm now in pre-menopause and am dealing with all the attendant issues of night sweats and unpredictable hormones. I just joined a gym near where I work and I went three times the first week to do "slow" 20 minute workouts. I know what it feels like to be in really good shape so it's going to take some time to adjust and relearn how to be fit.

My Goals:
Overall my goal is to lose 40 pounds. I want to avoid having a heart attack or a stroke that may disable me and keep me from enjoying my retirement years. Plus, I'm tired of being "fat and 50something." I no longer like to have my picture taken or displayed. I avoid looking in the mirror. My motivation is to be a healthy 50something.

My Program:
I'm working toward a healthy diet by trying new recipes and paying attention to my cravings, etc.

Personal Information:
I am a native of Illinois but I call west Michigan home now. I am happily married. No children. Active in my church and enjoy my job. I am a gardner and spend as much free time as I can in my flowerbeds during the spring and summer. I love to cook and have had fun adapting my favorite recipes to meet my weight loss goals.

Other Information:

I enjoy working out once I get past the initial phase and I know what I can accomplish so it's not very hard to get me going. It's keeping on track that's my challenge.

I also love to read. I love mysteries, thrillers, and old Victorian romance novels. I also enjoy watching crime shows on TV. When I run on my treadmill during cold weather I watch the Jewelry Channel!

    Hi and Welcome,

to the Perimenopause...Team. Please do feel free to ask questions. We are a friendly group of ladies all going through the same Season in our lives. emoticon

Please feel free to check out our Team's goals. We purposely made them just for our Team.

For example, the 'stretching 5 minutes' is important, especially when we feel too hormonal to exercise. The next best thing is to stretch a little. It can help us feel better in the long run.

    Take care,

    Elisa

Hi I am from west Michigan too. I am in Comstock Park. I too have Migraines almost every day that is part of why my exercising is mostly just walking. I added you as a spark friend. I write a lot of blogs on walking with the Walk Away The Pounds DVDs with Leslie Sansone.

Hi I read your post about migraines. I can't really give you good advice on this but I can say you might find support in this one team http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_
    individual.asp?gid=35537

I'm not sure if you feel you need a team like this but on the team we try to give the support that is needed.

I'll even go as far as to send you a invite to the team. And just maybe I'll see you on it.

My sister use to get them, and now my son gets migraines also, so far medicine is the only answer. However I also stress and maybe some foods can contribute t o them. And lack of sleep.
