Starting Over

My name is Bill. I gained a lot of weight over the past several years taking care of my beautiful wife. Now that she has passed away after a 4-year battle with Amyloidosis, it is time to start taking care of myself. The first year had mixed results, but I'm determined to turn this around. The activity isn't the problem - it's the healthy eating. I will do this, though!

I'm taking part in the Spring 5% Challenge. My goal is to lose 11 pounds during the challenge.

My Goals:
I want to get to 180 lbs by August 2105. While I can't run very much due to tendon damage after a broken leg, I want to continue the habit of exercising daily while eating healthier.

My Program:
Eat healthy, watch the portion sizes, and exercise frequently. This formula always works, but it's easier said than done! I've got to find a way to make them habits instead of things that I HAVE to do.

Personal Information:
I live in San Antonio, Texas - an absolutely great place! (except perhaps in July and August...)

Other Information:
I grew up in Texas, but spent 26 years in the Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, I worked another 15 years at Brooks AFB, TX as a contractor. I love outdoor activities of all types. I especially like hiking vacations. My son and my 7-year old grandson went with me on a 20-mile hike in the mountains of Wyoming last year.

Thanks for commenting on my fitness blog. Reporting a 50% increase today. I can now do THREE bench presses with that bar. Monday I go for FOUR. Ever upward! Bit by bit.
Living with Grandma was a memorable year. Unfortunately unlike your senior year, mine was quite a disruption. After 1 year in a Brooklyn, at an all girls Catholic school, my parents decided that my Dad would go work "on the jobs" (he was a welder) where the money was good. I would enroll as a sophomore in the HS in the little town in PA where they were born. Grandma really loved me but imagine, from Brooklyn to a rural area with NO TV or even central heat. Grandma had a coal stove and spoke little English. Then, Mom & Dad decided that life on the road wasn't worth the extra money and back we went to NYC and the NYC Public Schools for grades 11 & 12..
I credit that experience for my life-long flexibility. I can live anywhere.

emoticon For comments regarding my being stressed. I'm stressed over husband having pneumonia but thankful we can do his intravenous antibiotics at home. I will be sticking to the treadmill, bicycle and total gym indoors.

Have a great weekend!
