I been on SparkPeople since April 2010, I have a lot of changes in my life since joining. Most have been good, some have been testing me, others have been trying on me. But through the good, not so good, and the perfect times I have stayed positive. I had always thought that by nature I was positive about life and living it. Now I am not so sure that was always true. But I can say that I am more positive than I have ever been since I have started taking better care of myself the last several months.
My claim for years was I was the same weight as I was in High School, well that was 30 years ago, and while my weight only went up slightly my waist sizes grew tremendously. A year of wear and tear on my body was catching up with me and then I learned to deal with the pain. Then I went from tucking my shirts in to buying even larger sizes to hide my stomach. My guess is everyone knew it was there.
I work for our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate and one day I was looking at some pictures when I realized how bad I looked and I needed to do something about it. Then trips to the doctor and prescriptions for health issues started adding up. I came to realize I have two choices accept where I was and where I was heading or take responsibility for my health.
I owe it to my family to live a long and healthy life, just in a short time I have benefited from changing my lifestyle. My knee and back pain have been lessened by my weight loss; this alone has improved my quality of life.
My goals are simple:
1) Change how I have been eating eat better, and live healthier.
2) Reduce the hours I work and spend more time working on our house and family.
3) Use all my vacation time from now on.
4) Try to be a positive impact person on everyone I meet.
I have pretty much changed how I eat with the exception of pizza, that is a once a week meal. I have drastically cut back on drinking Pepsi; I have limited myself to two a day. However, I am trying to cut out Pepsi all together.
I have been stuck between 219 to 222 for about three months but I have been working so much on the job sites and not eating a lunch in most cases in lieu of eating a bad lunch. Now I am back in the office and back to a regular lunch. Therefore, I would expect to lose a few more pounds in the near future.
I live north of Cincinnati and we are in the process of remodeling our house and training our new lab pup Indy. In my free time at home, I enjoy woodworking and of course playing with Indy. We have a family cottage in Northern Indiana that is our escape from home. It on a 600-acre lake where we boat, fishing, swim, and just relax.
