Going, going...

New house, new job, new baby led me down the road to self-neglect. After 4 years of a downward slide, I'm ready to reinvest in myself.

OKay, so beyond the placeholder blurb...

I'm 36, I work in higher ed, have a 2 year old daughter and a 140 year old house in rural Vermont. Not that there is an *urban* Vermont, but we are in the "more cows than people" territory.

I'm 36, I work in higher ed, have a 2 year old daughter and a 140 year old house in rural Vermont. Not that there is an *urban* Vermont, but we are in the "more cows than people" territory.

I met my husband out West where he was in grad school and I was wandering about post-college. Out there, the active lifestyle was pretty well supported, and when we first moved here to VT, we rented a place right on one of the major trail systems in the area, so... no problems.

But then the downward slide... took on teaching 2 upper level college comp classes three days before the term started - ate my way through grading all those essays. Then we closed on our house the same week I started a full time staff position. Bye bye exercise time. Oh - and the office where I now worked had a candy bowl right by the door.

After my daughter was born, I actually lost all my pregnancy weight PLUS 12 pounds. But then it started creeping back on until I weighed about what I had when I got pregnant with her. And there I have been stuck. STUCK. Stuck.

In October, I found out I was pregnant again, and I started swimming as I had the last time. In November 2011 I had abdominal surgery after a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. So that sucked. And laid me up for a few weeks just in time for the holiday foodfest.

By xmas, I couldn't button my regular pants anymore. Over the winter holidays I read a couple articles that mentioned sparkpeople.com, and my sister was making major changes to her life, and it just all seemed to come together. So after the new year, I finally signed on and got started. Finally.

Just checking in - haven't heard anything from you in a long while, and just wanted you to know that someone in Texas is thinking of you!

You are too funny - keeping that special cupcake out of my mouth indeed! It is getting easier too. Several days in the fridge have made that particular decoration look like it has an STI. NOT wanting to eat that now...

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I hope you find lots of awesome recipes at katie's. My daughter won't eat spinach, but she'll wolf down the mint chocolate smoothie on that site, which is basically a banana and spinach base. Such a great way to help veggies become yummy!
