Tracking the Ptarmigan

Follow the tracks of a plump Alaska bird--grandmother, bookworm, fanatic knitter, water aerobics teacher--as she attempts to make shallower dents in the snow.

My favorite quote from Birdie, a Spark Person who lost 140 lbs: Know that for every day that you have stayed within your calorie limits, you have used a little of your fat stores.

The scale is only a guide. If you stayed within your calorie range, you did not deposit any new fat on your body. Tell yourself that the scale can sometimes hold on to extra water, leading you to think that you are not making any progress. Before you go to bed, pat yourself on the back and tell yourself, "I stayed within my calorie range today; therefore I did not gain any fat." Tell yourself that and stay on plan.

Thanks for the welcome to the team! As a lifetime fish, I had gotten away from it recently. I had high hopes of diving in today, but woke up to a cold day of rain. Sill going to try to get to the gym anyway!

Wow love your wintry background...I would like to invite you to the birding across america team...we'd love to have you..thanks....rico emoticon emoticon emoticon Yes I have made myself into a birder full time...getting closer to retirement and want to have plenty of fun things to do...I have always appreciated birds..but never before oct. of 14 did anything about it..except feed them and take a few pictures--and I have always raised some kind of bird....pigeons..chickens, ducks....finches, parakeets..ect..and way I just wanted to take it up a notch..so I started the birding across America team to help me fulfill my goals of loosing wt. and birding...so here I am..love to have you on our team...we always need new members...never know who that person is going to be on the team that can really bring in some enthusiasm..for birding or photography...ect...I do have some one great encounter with a Ptarmigan...when I was a real young child in OR...I used to look outside onto our front lawn and see all kinds of birds..one time I looked out and saw a pr. of Ptarmigans...I raced to get my mom..but by the time I got back with her...they had flown away I never got to see them again..I tried to explain them to my mom but it was yrs. later when I found them in a golden bird book and realized that what the bird I seen as a child was indeed a Ptarmigan--today I live in AR...not much chance of seeing one here...even blown off course..one of them that I seen as a child was all white..and the other which blown my mind as a child was half white and brown...just like I see them in your profile pic...that's what caught my eye when I seen your profile pic...thanks for sharing...rico emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yup, at least, I saw a lot of wiggling! I was surprised at how many people managed to get themselves excused.
