Slowly Losing Weight and Getting Healthy

I'm making this a lifestyle change not a diet!

Dieting always leads to NOT dieting which equals gaining it all back. I am done with that!
It took years to develop my bad habits and I expect it will take years to develop my healthier habits.
I am working on it! I will never give up!
I will get down to a normal weight!

In 2013 I will weigh in EVERY Wednesday.
I will try to lose every week. It's OK when I don't!

I am enjoying hiking most Fridays with my hubby. We are doing about 4- 12 miles each time. We have explored some amazing places!

I go to the gym twice a week. Most weeks.

I have a chronic bladder condition that sometimes limits my activities. I will not let it stop me!

Veggies have become a much bigger part of my diet and hubby, who does most of our cooking, is on board with this change. He has perfected a yummy garlicky veggie mix that we have most nights with dinner and I have in my lunch the next day. Now I am mixing them in with scrambled eggs too.

I still struggle with junk food, especially in the evenings. I need to work on that!

Personal Information:
I am 52, happily married to Tom. We live in Tacoma WA.
We raised 5 terrific (most of the time) kids. Now we are enjoying the freedom of them being grown up.

I work as an assistant manager/truck driver at a distribution center in Kent. I get to drive a pretty blue tractor /trailer.

I like to explore, hike, garden and travel.

There are many wonderful hiking trails not far from my home in Tacoma that I visit often.
I also hike at Mount Rainier every chance I get.
Now that fall is here we are hiking around North Bend. We are loving exploring the trails there.

Hi, WW!

I just read the comment below and feel bad that your WA team is having difficulty. Would a former Washingtonian be able to join the WA team from FL?

Anyway, thanks for the encouraging comment on my blog of the failed kidney surgery. He is doing okay today, but wants this over. Might have to go through it all again next week. I hope there are no complications on that one. It's riskier than the one they could not do. Wish I could figure out why he gets them, I'd fix it so he no longer got the food that was causing it, but I can't get an answer from the doctor on any known food or lack thereof that causes these things. Hope it's not heredity as his family has everything from soup to nuts in the medical world.

Thanks - you are appreciated. emoticon

Hi my friend Wendy...

I just wanted to let you know that I left as Co Leader of the Washington team & will be leaving the team all the way on Sunday.
It was to the point that I was the only one posting.
Keep up the good work..

He is feeling better - he better - he's got enough pain meds that make him a little high, but at least he's not squirming. I think it may be a slow process. One of the drugs is supposed to help with inflamation. The stone itself is about 8 cm. 5 dm is considered easy to pass, per DR. So this will pass, but it might take a bit and hurt along the way. He has to go to a urologist to see what that doctor has to say about it. I hope it isn't surgery, but we'll see. I don't want him squirming! That's gross watching your husband, or anyone you love, squirm and not be able to do a thing except pat their hand and hope/pray it ends real soon. What a helpless feeling!

Anyway, thanks for asking and wishing. I'll let him know you asked. He's off somewhere so I can get some things done without him underfoot.

have a great one!

Seems to be - going slow right now trying to get past it. It's a kidney stone. The last time he had this was when he was working at Carpet Exchange in Kent. Finally passed that one alright. This time they have him on antibiotics (cipro twice a day) and an antiinflammatory, two pain meds, one of which is the same as his trial of Mobic so he can't take that until he's done with the other. Then they gave him a narcatic, Lortab, to get past the pain, but I told him he had to be squirmming to take it as he can't drive a car, or work when he's on that. So he's been doing with the Mobic-like pill and he's doing pretty well.

He sleeps all the time, but that's the pain killer so I think he has more pain that he's telling me, cuz by the time he takes it, he's so tired he just goes to sleep.

Making him drink more water. He drinks too much coffee, which dehydrates him and helps the kidney stones form, and not enough water - sounds familiar except I don't drink coffee. I was drinking 5 x 20 oz bottles of water everday on top of a cup of coffee occasionally. I've been coffee free for a week now.

Anyway, he should be ok and his normal self real soon.

Have a great one!
