My journey... so far!

My weight loss journey to better health got a severe wake up call in 2004 when I ended up in the hospital, stepped on the scale in the ER and saw 216.5 pounds. 216?! I knew I was overweight but over 200?? Last I remembered I was in the 180s. I am only 5'5 so that is a lot of weight on a relatively small body.

I tried many different diets and eating lifestyles and found Nutrisystem and successfully lost over 50 pounds, close to 60 but I can't recall the exact number. At that ...

At that point I thought I had figured out the dietary basis for NS and found that I could buy food with similar nutritional values in the stores because NS is expensive and after a while it takes a toll on the pocketbook. I did well with this for a while but then I got lazy and living with a cheese loving, pasta loving, you name it food loving (except meat...vegetarian at this time) spouse didn't help someone who loves many of those same foods.

Some of the pounds came back on but not all of them! When I hit 170something I panicked and got serious again and once again tried a variety of things and discovered low carb works best for my body; I lost some of that weight but not all of it. But then I hit a wall and despite my best efforts of trying to eat healthy, exercise, count calories, etc I couldn't seem to stop eating all the wrong foods in far bigger quantities than I should. In my case that wall came when I was diagnosed with a health condition. Mentally, that killed me even though I knew if I took care of myself my diagnosis isn't life threatening. No matter what I tried I couldn't pull out of the pit I found myself in. This went on for too long and I knew I had to get my insane eating under control before I found myself in an even scarier place. Now I had a medical reason to eat healthy and lead a healthy lifestyle....my symptoms will be much less severe or possibly non-existent with a healthy lifestyle. The long term effects and symptoms are terrifying to me and I refuse to go there!!

Feeling desperate I tried MediFast until I could relearn to control my cravings and splurges. Well it worked for a little while (results varied but somewhere around 30 pounds disappeared w/MF). That coupled with exercise, a ton of water (20-30 glasses a day) and my SparkFriends, here I am within 20 or so pounds of my goal weight, closer than I have ever been in my life. I am actually getting to the point where I am nearing not caring what the scale number says (within reason!) and focusing on building some muscle and toning up those problem areas that we all have....abs....waving arms anyone?

I don't have an external support system so unfortunately I have to rely on my SparkFriends for support as I continue on this journey!!

Sounds like the job is going well then and will get better. That is good news to hear :) My job is pretty much same old same old. I am looking for something else but haven't found anything better so far, so the search continues. Not the most fun thing but hoping it works out for the best in the end!

And we watched the 3rd David Tennant special and have just one more to go and then I will have seen all of the Tennant episodes!
