I am a recently retired 64 year old who is looking to lose weight despite some health issues. I live in the Pacific Northwest, but back and leg problems have in the past kept me from getting out and enjoying our beautiful walkways. I can walk shorter distances, and with practice may get much better at that.
I am 6'4" and now, 265 lbs. I would like to lose 40 lbs more.
I believe in eating for taste and for health. That is why my wife and I eat a variety of Mediterranean foods. It is one of the better diets for heart health, diabetes prevention, and lower inflammatory problems. Also, hopefully it will help me lose weight. However, my basic eating guidelines came from Spark radio. There are two of them: Eat only when you are hungry, and eat till you are satisfied, not full. By using this credo, I have been able to gradually take off weight.
I too believe in exercise for health. That is why I started working out at the gym on 4/13/2014. There is nothing I know of that contributes to overall wellbeing than good fitness. Coming in a close second, is reducing ones stress level. Meditation can help considerably, but sometimes, it takes drastic changes in one's life circumstance to really get to reknow that relaxed self that we all have somewhere in us.
Though I'm not much of a laugher, I value a sense of humor. In the coming year, I hope to see more comedies, possibly read some witty things, lighten up and smile more. I have a new objective. For every five pounds I lose, I can buy a new comedy DVD. That will build up my collection of funny stuff for a while. Fitness can really help people feel better from the inside out.
My goals were to LOSE 82 lbs and get MOOVVING once again. Well, since then I am down a total of 42 lbs, and did get moving.
New eating guidelines will be to eat only when hungry, and eat only till satisfied, not full.
Also, working out at the gym three days per week, where I am focusing on overall body strengthening and some aerobics.
And I hope to get in some nature walks, for the pure joy of walking. I might fit in few bike rides too, in scenic areas.
I live in a wooded area outside of Olympia, Washington and am an early retiree.
I have a three year old granddaughter who is just adorable and a two year old grandson.
I recently found this quote, and it speaks to me: "Live all you can: It's a mistake not to."
Another: "Some people dream about success. Others wake up and work hard at it."
And: "Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody's watching."

HI GLEN, SORRY FOR THE PAIN IN YOUR LEGS. I HAVE ARTHRITIS SO I KNOW HOW THAT IS.

Oh Glen, I am so sorry for the pain in your legs. Have you tried walking in water? Maybe that would help. There is a chair exercise team that I belong to. Perhaps you can try doing upper body aerobic exercises. Take care.

Hi Glenn, Sorry for garbled message below, small phone, thick fingers hit send too early. On the old PC now. Just saying thanks for the update and sorry to learn of bad reaction to Saturday activity. I am checking out if ten years of statins could connect to my own, far less serious, cramp issues. Doc. thinks unlikely but I'm still going to investigate. Wishing you all the best in finding a way forward. Keep in touch re how you're doing.

Thanks for stopping by my blog about our teenager poking me - kids!
I just read your bio - we used to live in the PNW; what a lovely part of the country. Good luck with your journey here. You have made great progress so far! And I really like your reward system. If you are looking for entertaining, funny videos, I recommend Kingsman: The Secret Service. We saw it over the holidays and it was so very entertaining.
