After years and years of issues with poor body image, an eating disorder, and such complete identification with my physical form that I felt completely defined by how I looked, I struggled with post-partum depression when pregnant and went from 128 to more than 180 pounds by the time my second daughter was born. After a series of heartbreaking crises that changed everything about my life, including the loss of a loved one, I completely broke down and had to take medication in order to "deal" with the every day. I felt little joy and this was reflected in my outward appearance and in the way I moved through the world.
As the medication began its work, life was easier to manage and some of the happiness returned. But things had changed for me, and I began to question WHO I truly was and what I was truly meant to do in the world. Within my core, there was the knowledge that more was required of me, but I was lost and floundering without either map or signpost. It was then I happened upon "A NEW EARTH" by Eckhart Tolle.
Since I started reading the book in March, things have begun to change for me in the most positive and beautiful ways. I have ceased taking medication to treat my depression, and am using healthy eating, exercise, and the inner, spiritual work for which I had such a thirst, to create a stronger, better version of the Real Me, the Being within.
Truly, I barely recognize this new person emerging! All my life, for various reasons, I disliked running and never made it a part of my exercise program. However, I decided to set myself a goal using that which had caused me so much anxiety and inspired within me so much dislike, and now I am using the Couch to 5k program to train for my first 5k! I am now on Day 3 of my 2nd Week and went from being able to run 30 seconds to 5 MINUTES! What a difference.
This body is of a 34-year-young-mommy to two daughters, ages nearly-3 and 1. I live in M-i-crooked letter-crooked letter-i ... (mississippi).
a. Ideally, I would like to lose 30 lbs in the next 8 mths, improve my flexibility, be more confident in myself and my abilities, and to have an overall healthier lifestyle both physically and mentally.
b. To be the best wife and mother I can possibly be.
c. To live in the Now at all times and to begin meditation exercises every day.
d. Run my first 5k!
I plan to follow weight watchers core system, keep track of my food and fitness goals through SP, and to exercise 5-6 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. In addition, free weights three times a week and possibly a day or two of yoga, along with various strength training exercises. More recently, I am doing the Couch to 5k program in training for my first 5k!
Besides the work on my exterior, I am using the practices in A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle.
