Ready for a new me

MOST RECENT UPDATE 12/30/12 -- Over the past 2 years, (see below) I have not made much progress. However, I am still learning a lot from my SparkFriends and about myself. Hi, here I am, still trying to change! Tried everything out there, including gastroplasty over 20 yrs. ago, fen-phen, etc. and still do not have a handle on eating and exercising. Age 61, retired, no kids at home, travel around quite a bit. Had fibromyalgia years ago, but still think there is some residual symptoms. Neuropathy sometimes a problem; have high BP, borderline high cholestrol & diabetes. Slowly getting back to a walking program after knee probs.

My Goals:
To be a healthy weight so I can be more active - and vice versa! Specifically:
weight under 200# by the end of 2013. Well,THAT didn't happen, with a vacation and the holidays. SO now, my goal is 25# in the next 3 months. Exercise 6x a week for at least 45 min.
Lower Fasting Blood Sugar to 100 or less.
Lower Blood Pressure.
Lower Cholesterol.
Addendum: Lab tests Sept. '10 & '11 were all LOWER! (exc. triglycerides.) Dr. was pleased, as was I, to see that my efforts are showing! Yay for oatmeal!
'12 labs were "OK"

My Program:
Eating more veggies and fruits, less JUNK, less alcohol. I will pay attention to portions. I pledge to do 30-45 min. of exercise every day! (w/ one day of rest)

Personal Information:
Raelene here, living in NW WI, but my heart is in Jamaica! Or anywhere tropical. We have 3 children, 7 grandchildren, no pets. Our goal as a couple is to be there for each other when we are old and gray. Getting there fast!

Other Information:
Totally into music, movies and reading.

Let's face it that is one of the appeals of running as opposed to walking as is the calorie burn in an hour of running computing to pizza or ...................whatever, LOL I guess right now though, the thing that seems to be of the most value is that shedding of stress. Gosh I wish I had been a runner in my working years! Maybe I wouldn't have entered retirement with all this excess baggage. emoticon

Hi Raelene, sorry I'm late in thanking you for the goodie. I think fortune cookies are just plain fun. And my sister said you always have to add 'in bed', after you read the fortune. It makes it a little more interesting. emoticon

Hi Raelene,

So, yes, 'High C' is two octaves above middle C. I can sing several notes above that... C#, D, Eb, E, F, F#, and G. The F above high C is the top note in the famous song of the Queen of the Night in the Magic Flute. Here's one of my favorite recordings of it:

So, that top note is 2.5 octaves above high C, not three emoticon .

Cheers,
Heidi

Hi Raelene,

Thanks! I appreciate all the lovely compliments!

Yes, I do need to rise above the other... and I do - but first, I usually have to vent my frustrations somewhere safe, lol. There is a communication gap there, but I'm not allowed to address it. My sweetie seems to think that being a 70 year old woman in the south, gives people the right to behave however they wish. I disagree. And furthermore, if someone ould have the balls to tell her how poor her behavior is, perhaps she could stop offending and alienating everyone around her (though that would take a lot of work).

Thanks again for your support and for enjoying my singing! And yes... I can sing a high D, plus E-flat, E, F, F-sharp, and most days G, sometimes higher. emoticon

Hope you're having a lovely week!

Cheers,
Heidi
