THANK YOU SPARKPEOPLE!!

Okay here goes... I have never put myself on the internet before (I have a deep-seeded fear of Facebook) but I have been so thrilled and encouraged by other peoples pages that I am trusting to put myself out there.

Hi everyone, I'm Belinda.

I have, as of today (April 19, 2009) lost 75 lbs. I'm not done yet, 55 more to go but for the first time in my entire life I can say that I am going to do it. I am not dieting, I am changing my life. For good.

Over the years I have tried every "secret", every "short-cut", every "diet". I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars trying to take the easy way out.

I have been 300 +/- 20 lbs for over 10 years now. I was 40 lbs overweight when I got married 14 years ago and it only built from there.

I now have 2 kids, a girl 6 and a boy 3, and I want to be the best role model I can be. I never want them to go through the shame, insecurity and embarassment of being overweight. They deserve to live life to the fullest and I want to show them how!

People keep asking me how I've done it, what my secret is. Here's the secret...Diet and Exercize (I know, all you who are just starting are groaning). Oh, and being ready. I have been nagged, guilted, bribed, threatened and yet I failed over and over. You can't do it for anyone else, it needs to be deep in your soul, you need to be ready to change.

A few months before starting this I wept with my husband telling him my bone deep fear of failing again. I knew that my self esteem couldn't take another failure.

However, my longtime friend ended up being my inspiration and now my accomplice. She started "doing it". After years of us both being fat and complaining about it, she was doing it.

Watching her change, her lightening both physically and emotionally I was inspired, and jealous. And after 4 months of watching from the sidelines, and a lot of thought and prayer, I was ready. Deep in my soul (man that sounds corny, but it's true).

Now, 10 months later we are BOTH still going. She is over 100 lbs lighter and my greatest inspiration. We join together with 2 other longtime heavy friends once a week and instead of getting together and complaining about our weight (or eating, our usual plan) we workout. And while we sweat we rejoice/complain (whatever the week produces), encourage and support and it has changed us all! Even though we all stumble at times, we don't let each other go and we are changing!

My now thin friend also introduced me to sparkpeople and it has been such a great help. It taught me what I was eating (I am a mom and therefore I picker and grazer), how to eat right, gave me workouts I can do from home, and when I am down or frustrated is a great encouragement (I love to search the sparkpages for inspiration, thank you all for sharing).

(Deep breath)

Main Goal:

To be 180 lbs by June 2, 2010 (my 2 year anniversary from when I started my life change).

Short-term Goal:

- May 2, 2009- 11 months - 230 lbs **reached May 7/09,

- June 2, 2009 - 1 year-226 lbs - NO LONGER OBESE!! Go shopping! **reached May 19/09!! Need to find time to shop now!

-July 20/09 (end of 8 week challenge) 210 lbs - 100 lbs lost and buy new bras
** reached July 17/09!! -

- At 100 lbs lost- start jogging to get a jump start on the last 30 without blowing my knees!! **Started running early around 90 lbs lost**



My Program:
-Pre-planned meals
-Gym 3 days/week with strength training & cardio
-DVD's or treadmill other days with 1 day of rest
-Girls workout Mondays
-Eat cravings on Family Fridays
-1000 minutes of exercize per month
-record all food & exercize on Sparkpeople
-LOTS AND LOTS OF PRAYER!!!
