Well, I had gastric bypass surgery May 22, 2007 so we'll see what happens.. My health is currently okay-no blood pressure, diabetes, heart issues but they are in my family history. UPDATE SEPT 2007: my doctor thinks my sleep apnea (that was not diagnosed until right after my surgery) is resolved. I know I am sleeping better. I don't have the circulation issues (arms falling asleep mainly), numb hands, fingers that I used to have while trying to sleep.

I am trying to rewrite my destiny by pursuing this surgery and lifestyle change so I can live a long and healthy life for my friends, family and especially my beautiful and sweet daughter. I have the best friends ever and my friends and family are a wonderful gift, offering love and support on my quest to have a healthy life!

Sept 27, 2007: I need clothes! I have bought one pair of jeans and 2 denim skirts for work. I surprise myself by fitting into clothes that I didn't think I could wear yet. LOVING THIS!

January 22, 2008: I am sizing myself down and away from Lane Bryant. I have discovered New York & Co. I am weaning myself away from Fat Girl Shopping (purses, perfume, candles, makeup, earrings) and actually buying XLs and Ls in Old Navy! Hit up that major sale last week and got some great things! VERY excited about that! Today I am 17lbs away from my initial goal before I reassess and look for my new goal!

April 28, 2008: I am wearing clothes sizes I haven't been able to wear since at least 1990. CATO is a girl's best friend! LOL

Late July 2008: I just got a gift card from Lane Bryant in the mail and I laughed! I used to go in there in a panic looking for clothes and now I am sizing myself out of there! YAY! I am currently in Large shirts and size 14 (one size 12) pants/skirts. Would love to get to a solid 12 on my own before looking at skin surgery.

August 2008: found some shorts I bought at the beginning of summer that were still in the Old Navy bag and I remembered I bought them on clearance for Summer 2009 when I hoped to be in them. I tried them on and thought, "Let's see how far til I get into this Medium--and they FIT now!" Woot! I now am wearing the Medium shorts and very excited. Wearing a smaller size is definitely a motivating factor in maintaining my weight loss.

November 2009: I cannot believe it's been SO long since I updated this! I had skin surgery on May 22, 2009 and they took off 10lbs of skin. It was a horrific surgery but I am finally now able to say I am glad I did it. Clothes fit much better, confidence is better, clothes are SMALLER! Depending on the cut and style, I am wearing some Mediums in skirts, shorts and knit pants. I am more like a size 12 in jeans and with my height, I am totally fine with that. I would like to lose another 10 lbs if that is what it would take to firm up the "back fat" that the plastic surgeon was not permitted to take off for me back in June. I find myself gravitating less to the Plus size section of the store but that is always going to be a nagging feeling for me. This is an every day choice of decisions for me and I am glad for it!

My Goals:
I want to be able to take up an active sport and show my daughter what a healthy lifestyle is. I want to be able to go into an average-sized person's store and pick up average-sized clothes.
UPDATE: Late JULY 2008 I am buying Large shirts :) I NEED NEW CLOTHES!!! Woo Hoo!
I want to have my outside match my inside!

My Program:
I weighed in at 300.4lbs the morning of my RNY surgery. I am using the tool of Gastric Bypass surgery followed by continued healthy eating and daily physical activity. I hope to eventually incorporate yoga and pilates into my program. CURRENTLY I AM LOVING WALKING, SWIMMING and WATER AEROBICS! I make myself walk at any and every opportunity.

Personal Information:
I am from North Carolina. I work as a Guardianship social worker for our local hospital's patients who need legal surrogate decision makers appointed in their best interest.

I want to be a cheerleader for others considering this surgery. I have been a "coach" to 2 coworkers who have had Roux En Y since my own surgery. So excited for them!

Other Information:
Still considering getting a personal trainer after I have my skin surgery. I cannot expect that to make everything right on its own. Rumor has it I have ab muscles somewhere under all this flab!

I am trying to not be a slave to the scales. I have to remind myself that though the pounds are slacking off, the inches and toning are still happening. I now am more concerned/thrilled with the idea of judging my weightloss by the size clothes I can wear!

Ok this is trippy. Our surgeries were exactly a year apart. I had mine done at Pitt County which Im assuming is where you did yours. Who was your doctor? Mine was Dr. McDonald. This is a small world. emoticon

Thanks for stopping by my SparkPage :) Yes, I am doing much better on the calorie fight, haha! I have actually been maintaining since December (except when I had the flu, then I did lose a couple pounds, understandable though). I still have to remind myself to eat but it is getting much easier to do so.

BTW, you are looking fantastic!!!! Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see you after your plastic surgery, you are going to look so awesome! Keep in touch and I'll see you around :)
