on the road to health

12-3-2010
I figured it was time to update my profile! I have been on Sparkpeople for 3 years, and I LOVE it.
A little about me... I love to cook a good meal. I have become a pretty decent cook over the years. :) I really enjoy running. I feel the best thing to be is kind. I try to always be kind. I am a domestic goddess AKA Homemaker. I like domestic goddess better. I am happily married (14 years) and have 4 kids. I love being able to stay home with my kids, and take care ...

I love being able to stay home with my kids, and take care of my family, I know it is a blessing that not everyone gets to have.
I have struggled with being slightly overweight since about a year after I had my first child. I took birthcontrol pills, and put on 30 pounds in 9 months, while on the poison pills. The pills also destroyed my menstrual cycle, and led to me developing a condition called PCOS. Besides having fertility issues, the PCOS also causes weight gain.
My youngest kiddo is one, so I think it is time for me to shed the weight I put on during my pregnancy with him. I know what works. It takes discipline to count calories, and exercise, but it works. I have found that setting short term goals is best for me, because I don't lose focus. With long term weight loss goals, it is to easy to procrastinate.

I am working hard to meet my weight loss goals. I am learning so much from sparkpeople, and I know that I will lose the weight that I want to. I have 3 children, and have gradually put on weight. I used to weigh 115, and I am now 165. I have an ovary condition called PCOS, which is a metabolic condition. I basically have too much insulin coursing through my veins. I have learned that this condition can be controlled with diet, and medication. I have chosen to try diet for a while to see if that will work. Amazingly, if I were to lose this weight, I could be cured of this condition. However, it is EXTREMELY difficult to lose weight with this condition.
I enjoy exercising, so that part is easy for me. I have a hard time controlling my portions, and this web site has been very helpful with that. I CAN. That is the attitude I am adopting.

Other Information:
I use a calorie deficit calculation to help me lose weight.

BMR calc is

655 + (4.3 x weigh in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age).

to figure your calorie deficit for the day:

(BMR x 1.1 for sedentary during day, 1.2 active half of the day, or 1.3 for on your feet all day.) + calories burned - calories eaten. This has been helpful for me.

You are so sweet! Thank you for your kind words. That is amazing that you have 4 kids. You look like a young mom. I would love to have 4, but I just turned 39 and feel too old now. Ha! Take care.
