Also about the 2 pounds, that happens to me whenever I start revving up my exercise. I think its temporary inflammation of the muscles, they hold onto water. Also the bacteria in the gut can vary widely.... 2 pounds is only 4 cups of water... something to remember so you don't get discouraged or put off by your fitness routine.

5k? Thats awesome! I ran one 5k and all I can tell you is the most important thing is finishing the race, it doesnt matter how fast, or in what place you are, the best feeling in the world is passing that finish line and knowing you did it!
I see you joined a c25k sparkteam! Definitely join spark teams that have members that can help you with tips on training. I honestly didnt really train for my 5k. I run in the park by my house, so when I was looking at 5k's to run, there was one that was being done at the park so I registered for that one.
Just remember pacing yourself is key!
