It's about quality of life

HI!
I'm Tracey, a 23 y.o. and I moved to Wisconsin last June for work. I graduated last May and I didn't realize just how much my newly sedentary lifestyle was adding up until I could compare my weight from my first visit with my new HMO to a visit 6 months later. When I could quantify just how much weight I gained I knew it was time for a change. Thanks to a supportive friend network and a history of family weight issues, I found what I needed to get going to get healthy. I'm just ...
I'm just beginning again, but this time its about quality of life, not numbers on a scale.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to the future!

My Goals:
My first priority is my health. I come from a family of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer. The first thing on my list to maintain my good blood pressure and blood glucose, lower my bad cholesterol and triglycerides, and raise my good cholesterol. Secondly, I want to determine what is my trigger to go to food so I can deal with all of the non-hunger reasons. Thirdly, I'm thinking of my future. My mom suffered with PCOS and struggled to get pregnant. Reducing my weight is the best chance to reduce the likelyhood that I will face that myself.

Overall, I'd like weigh less than 150 lbs for a specific number, but I'm ready to make changes into habits for an overall better life.

My Program:
I have been seeing a dietician for a few months now and have started a gym membership. I am really struggling with portion control but I make good food choices. At the gym I include a cardio element everyday, some longer than others, and lift weights four times a week.

Personal Information:
I'm from Iowa!

HI!! welcome to our 20 somethings group! i have been with this group for almost a week now. this group is awesome! you are right, losing weight is not about the numbers we see on the scale. its about our overall health! i first started thinking about losing weight when my period stopped. the doctor says it because of how much weight i have gained this past year. but i wasnt really WANTING to do it. then i went out 2 fridays ago with some friends. i bought a tube drink that had a glow stick bracelet in it. my cousin put it on my wrist...barely. then as we were talking it popped off and flew across the bar!! that was so embarrassing. then i was like ok thats enough! so i called my doc back and asked her what is the good weight for someone of my age and height? she said its 145 lbs. but she told me exactly what you said in your intro on your page, dont lose weight to lose the lbs. lose the weight to be healthy. so we agreed on a goal weight of 160 lbs. i joined sparkpeople and i joined the 20 somethings group. and let me tell yeah, ive felt discouraged a couple of times and ive had a couple of small issues that i went to the group for advice on. and all the advice and ideas i am getting off of these members is working! i took a sneak peek at the scale the other day and i lost a little over 2 lbs so far this first week! so you joined a great group! so have fun with starting your "new life"! and if you need anything just ask and ill try to help and if i cant then thatll be a learning experience for both of us! hehe. anyways good luck!! emoticon
