After a very long absence, I'M BACK and 30 pounds heavier than the last time I was here. We moved to Costa Rica permanently in 2011 and have been busy building our new home and just enjoying retirement. Now it's time to get back on track and start exercising. The roads here are not safe for an old lady on a bike, so I guess I'll have to settle on my bicycle trainer in the living room.

I've struggled with my weight for years and now I'm determined to get fit and stay healthy as I approach retirement. I have been blessed with excellent health all my life, but I know obesity will eventually take it's toll on my health if I don't do something about it now. I started this journey in February, 2009, after a virtual slap in the face (see my blog entry for more about this). I've reduced my calorie intake significantly. I now consume between 1200 and 1500 per day.
I'm doing this with my wonderful husband and the results of our efforts are really starting to show. As of 10/28//09 I have lost 50 pounds and my husband has lost 72. We continue to motivate each other and marvel at what we have accomplished together.
As we drop the weight, we both have more energy to get out and do more. I now ride my bike, anywhere from 5 to 10 miles, about 5 times a week. We have also taken up Geocaching (www.geocaching.com) as a way to get outside walking and moving.
We are now halfway to our goal weight and everyday this journey becomes a little easier. This time we know we will be able to reach out goal and maintain it for the rest of our lives!

* Ride my bike up and down the hills between our "casita" and the central park in Atenas, CR.
* Help my husband get to his goal weight of 160.
* Update all the recipes on my blog to include nutritional information.
I limit my daily calories between 1200 and 1500. I try to ride my bike 30 minutes everyday.
I have have been a yo-yo dieter most of my life. I joined Jenny Craig with my husband. He needed to loose a total of 135 pounds and I needed to drop 110 pounds. We are both 60 years old, deeply in love and we really want to improve our health so we can enjoy many more years together.
I have mastered a balanced diet and portion control for the first time in my life, still go in for our weekly weigh-in's @ JC to stay motivated.
This is not a diet anymore, it has become a life style and we will live this life style for the rest of our lives.
Now, when we go out to dinner, we order 2 side salads with oil & vinegar on the side, with an entree we split. I pack a lunch for my husband everyday and a Subway 6" Turkey without cheese or mayo has become a staple for lunch on the run.
I have found the SP Tools terrific aids that help me track our progress and stay focused.
