After a pretty normal life of little gains and diets, staying in pretty good shape, I injured my knee, one operation led to another , confined to wheelchair, very lonely, I found myself in a very dark and depressed place, food became my friend. I weighed about 185, this was in 1998. I loved to eat good food. But I also found myself eating junk and bad food, I continued to eat, I would lose 10 or 15 lbs but gain it back. I was still having trouble walking, was declared disabled and that made my situation worse. I felt as long as I could not get around I could at least eat, and I ate and ate, I loved to cook and bake and I did it all. But living alone I ate it all too. Finally at more than 345 or so, (my scales had stopped at 300) I made an appointment with my doctor ,this was in October .2009. , I tried to crash off as much weight as I could before I went in , but I had no idea that I was as heavy as I was. I checked in and my weight was 333 lbs I said enough , I want my life back. I embarked on a weight loss program, under doctor supervision.

01/15/2012..135.. maintenance,,I am at my GOAL.
03/20/2012..133..This makes my weight loss 202 lbs.
05/17/2012..136..holding, never more than 3 lbs difference.
03/25/2014 Update.
I found 135 to hard to maintain. Had more corrective surgery to both hands and shoulder.
I went back to 144, to 148. I try my best to keep in that range.
I find that if I don't work out at a high cardio rate, I gain.
I find that to maintain, it's a daily thought process.
I try to eat as normal as others, but with moderation.
I don't want to go through the rest of my life avoiding foods that I want to taste. But more than anything I don't want to experience one more day at an unhealthy weight or in bad health. So in a nut shell, I will do what I have to do to keep the weight off .

We, of a certain generation, had chickenpox as kids. The virus hides in the nerve root waiting for an opportunity to become active again. My mother only had chickenpox as a kid, of all the childhood illnesses, and was quite incredulous when she got shingles about seventy years later, and I explained to her it was coming from the childhood event. Her case, thankfully, was relatively mild. But she had a friend who had it worse.

Not being up on the current literature, I asked a friend who is a director of family medicine at Harvard. He recommended it. Was good enough for me! But know it depends on one's immune status. Still worth a conversation with one's doctor.

Hi Tisha, Yes, I am praying for these people that have to leave their homes and go to a shelter. I hope their home is still standing when they return. This is so scary. Yes, our Mia is a wonderful dog and very good company for all of us. I figured you were working on your crafts as the shows will be coming up with the holidays. Tisha, enjoy your week-end! emoticon

Hi Tisha, Just stopping by to wish you a great day. Yes, the people in the path of this storm need our prayers. Not sure if and when it will hit here. I hope you and little Titan are doing well. My grandson is back at home to finish the last year of college and he has a dog. Her name is Mia and she was a rescue dog but is such a dear. She is a boxer with a little Pit Bull but she is so gentle. She had puppies and then was left at the shelter with her cage, etc so there must have been a family situation. She is very well behaved and of course visits me when the family goes out. She is very attached to Chris so we do have a new fur baby in the family. I think she is 4 years old. I hope things are well with you.
    Take care! emoticon
