Travel Size Me!

Hi! I'm Tina Thames.

I am a 37-year old, plus-sized traveling consultant. I travel within the United States on a weekly basis. My regular routine includes leaving home on Monday morning and returning home to my husband and pets each Thursday night - usually traveling 1,000 - 2,000 miles in-between.

If only I could pack my plus-sized frame into an array of 3-ounce containers and tuck them into the TSA-mandated 1-quart Ziploc bag, travel would be SO MUCH EASIER! But ...

But alas - I'm relegated to instead squeeze my full figure into a 17.2" seat for 6-8 hours a week for my weekly commute. There has got to be a better way!

Of course that answer is easy - lose weight! However, the first thing my family and friends say when I talk about adopting a healthy eating plan is: "Oh, that must be difficult since you travel so much!" And they're right. For years I've used my frequent flights, hotel stays and forced restaurant meals as the excuse for not shedding excess pounds.

And where has it gotten me? No place good - that's for sure. I'm now considered morbidly obese - packing on an extra 80+ pounds. Also, I'm on multiple medications for diabetes and high-cholesterol. But enough, is a enough! I've decided that I'm no longer going to use my chosen work profession to affect my personal health.

This year my motto is - "Where there's a will... There's a way!".

I'm so very glad that you've joined the Emotional Eaters Team. The team is a place where you can vent. And where you will receive some awesome support. Of course, I am biased ... its my favorite team at SparkPeople! I hope you find exactly what you are looking for! Welcome to the team!

Be sure to ask questions if you have them ... someone will likely have the answer. Use the tools SparkPeople provides. They are invaluable. If you feel an emotional eating attack coming on, come to the boards first. Write about it instead of pushing the feelings away with food. We're here for you!

Eat well, journey well,
Cathy emoticon
