Before the Spring BLC we were asked to write down 5 motivators to lose weight. Well for the Summer BLC we were asked to do the same. I've decided to go back and review my motivators from the Spring to see how far I've come and where I need to go. (updated: May 16th, 2010)


1. I need to lose weight to help my body get pregnant. I have struggled with infertility for 3 years now, I'm DONE! My husband and I have been praying and working hard to have our dream come true of raising a family. My weight is not going to stand in the way anymore.

UPDATE: I'm pregnant!!! We found out Nov. 11th! We are over the moon. I'm still watching my weight and keeping the weight gain under control! It has been 3 long years of trying and we're finally there!!

2. Get my PCOS/Insulin Resistance in CONTROL! I was diagnosed with PCOS in April 2009 after two years of infertility. On April 25, 2009 my life changed forever. Finally, I had a diagnoses for so many of the issues that have been plaguing me for so long, especially the rapid weight gain over the past 2 years. In April my fasting insulin was 27! Wow, that's BAD. In Jan. of this year it was down to 11! So much better! The goal of my doctor and myself is to get it under 10 which will greatly improve my fertility. And with that reduce my risk of heart disease and diabetes which will be knocking at my door if I can't get my PCOS under control.

UPDATE: I had my Dr.'s appointment on May 13th. My insulin is 3!!!! That is NORMAL, any woman off the street! My doctor was ecstatic and I'm so very happy. He said I have reversed the effects of my PCOS! I'm still on my metformin but he said if my insulin continues to stay down I may be able to go off the meds someday!

3. I want to wear my wedding band and engagement ring. I have outgrown them, when I gained 75 pounds in one year and haven't been able to wear them since. It is my dream that I will wear them again without having to get them resized.

UPDATE: On April 12th I could wear each ring individually but not together. On May 12th I can now wear them both together. I'm SO HAPPY! I now wear my rings everywhere and I haven't been able to do that in so long.

4. I want to be healthy. I was so lethargic at 272. I didn't want to do anything outside of work besides sleep. Now that I've lost almost 60 pounds I'm ready to go! I'm training for a 5K, dancing in the hallways with my students (I teach 3rd grade), and enjoying life again!

UPDATE: I've now lost 77 pounds! I'm still feeling great. I'm still working on training for a 5k. I have also joined a community bootcamp that meets 4 nights a week and kicks my butt!

5. I need to get healthy habits now, before I have children. I want my own children to grow up being active and realizing good food choices. I can't teach them that if I don't practice what I preach. I want to set a good example for them. This year I have stopped drinking soda (I only drank diet but it's still BAD for me), my students now see me drink a ton of water. It makes me proud to lead by example.

UPDATE: I'm still off the diet soda. I drink water all day/ everyday. Still trying to incorporate good habits into my eating but it's much better than where I started!

My Goals:
I have several goals that I'm sure will change as I begin my journey to healthiness:

get healthy so I can get pregnant, maintain a pregnancy, and start a family

train for a 5k

Get out of the obese category! I have 12 more pounds before I'm there!

My Program:
Currently I'm really trying to focus on healthy eating. I watch my calories and drink my water! I'm incorporating exercise into my program too.

I'm challenging myself with the Biggest Loser Sizzlin' Summer Meltdown. Go Mahogany Melters!!
