Before my work related injury several years ago, I was fit, trim, active, healthy, and happy (well, reasonably so!). I had just discovered my Life Purpose and was starting to pursue it.

But I was injured on the job, my doctors called me permanently disabled, and my life has been one of surviving, not living, ever since. Keeping weight off has been a struggle, as has been holding on to my sanity.

For many years now I have simply been surviving from one day to the next. But it's time to live again.

I'm now in that in-between place of better than I was, but not as good as I could be. Each great day is magnificient, making each bad day harder to endure than before.

Each day is about small steps, and keeping the long-term in focus. I can't let myself get into emotional chaos from the natural highs and lows (good days and bad days) that come from living with chronic pain. I have to stay focused on the question "Am I better now overall than I was last week, last month, last year?" If yes, then I have to hold on to that - which isn't that much different from all of us struggling with weight loss. It's a long term view.

Having been an "unproductive" member of society (unable to work, earn my own way), I know now how decimating it is to one's self-esteem, spirit and psyche. I long for the day when I can be all the way back - and better than ever - with all that I've learned in my journey.

My Goals:
Goals are so hard to set, and change frequently.

I won't put a date on anything, but I want to be fully functional (aka "normal"), pain free, fit, trim, healthy and financially self-sustaining.

When this all will happen I will no longer try to pre-determine. But it will happen!


My Program:
I have switched to a pimarily raw vegan diet.

Understanding the principles of Atkins, I now pay attention to the glycemic index of foods - and as a result I lose weight with less effort, and feel full, energetic and satisfied!

Exercise has been redefined in terms of things that are challenging to me.

My daily exercise routine is to be sure to shower, put on street clothes, get all my own meals, tend the garden and tend the cats daily.

I am now trying to incorporate "traditional" exercise as best I can. It's a day to day thing to find out what, and how much, I can do. But overall, this year is more active than last!

    Good Morning, happy Friday!

    I just read your comment that you posted to the blog "How Do We Raise Morally Healthy Children". I was shocked to read about the problems you are having at work with the "bully". As children I understand why certain things happen, but as adults? I just don't get that. I hope something is done about your work place bully soon!!

    Hi, saw your comment on the Eco-Atkins thread, and realized we have the same goals only you're way closer to reaching them! I've been a bit off track lately, and am currently on Atkins but would like to phase out the meat (I'm really not a fan and have been vegetarian most of my life). What has your experience been with avoiding the induction phase?
