========================================

I am a 40 something French SAHM of two and a Martial Artist who also like to Bike, Swim and Run, to Cook and Photography as well.

I am a Spark People Veteran (since 2007) who lost 50 lbs in 2007-08, gained some back then lost some, gained them all back again, and now determined to lose them again and for good because it feels like YO-YO could be my middle name! LOL

I was born and raised in France (French Riviera) and I never had any weight issues until I followed my husband to the US - Must be the air... LOL

Anyway, here I am still injuried and not able to run as I use to yet. It has been two years of Cast, Braces, Orthotics and Physical Therapy - you name it! This longlasting struggle got the best of me and I lost interest in all form of exercise for about two years. I ended up overweight and in treatment for depression for about a year - recently got off medication. ☺

On my Husband's advice, I followed up my Children's foot-steps into Shaolin Kempo Karate and Jiu-Jitsu and that brought some fresh air to my life, motivating me for life again because I realized that I was still able to challenge myself and to feel sense of accomplishement while I was upranking.

It has been two years now and I went from White to Green belt = 2 more belts (and 3 degrees) until Black Belt! ☺

I live in Maine and winters are pretty rough, but when it gets warmer I like to ride my BIKE as often as I can. I winter I bike indoors which I don't enjoy as much as the indoors but it is a safer (and warmer) option. Long rides in the country often gives me that "running high" I use to get... ;-P

EMOTIONAL EATING is my concern and PEER PRESSURE my weakness - my family loves their junk food - which doesn't make it easy for me to keep in track, but I am willing to try again NOW because time is not on my side - I am in my 40s...

I have learned a lot during my years here on Spark People. I counted my calories in and out, I exercised like a crazy frog (mostly running) and logged everything religiously, and it certainly helped tremendously at the time but I don't seem to have found the secret of MAINTENANCE yet... :-(

This is what I intend to work on, no matter if I can ever run that Half Marathon I have always dreamed to do someday. I covered the distance in training in July 2009 anyway and I was able to do so in 2:32:32, my goal time. An official record and a finishing medal would have been nice but... oh well... I have a picture of my Garmin's screen (in my photo gallery) that I could frame! LOL

►► I need to ACCEPT that my body is unique and that what works for others might not be suitable for me.

►► I need to find MY WAY and be grateful for that second chance at life I got. Winning the battle over Cancer proved me that I AM STRONG and STUBBORN (in a good way) ☺

►► Also, I had my kids late in life and I will be in my late 60s (maybe 70s) when my kids will be in age to have children themselves. Another good motivation for fitness is that I want to be an involved and active "Nana" someday! ☺

I might have to give up on my old Half-Marathon dream but that's all right because I have set my mind other goals now and... I NOT GIVING UP ON MYSELF! HA! ☺
