I am IronMan (or at least I will be)

A little bit about me:

I am 42 years old and a couch potato (I sit in front of a computer all day at work, and at home as well).

2 weeks ago I was mowing the lawn and getting so exhausted from such a menial task. It was then that I decided to do something about my weight.

I decided then and there that I was going to compete in a Triathalon, and not just any Triathalon, but the IronMan. I am 42 now, and I am sure I can complete this goal by age 50. ...

Like everyone tells me, small steps are the key.
First, a doctor's visit (10 years since my last physical, ouch).
Then a diet change, and finally exercise and training.
Plus I suppose I should learn how to swim (I can't do the American Crawl), and get a bicycle.

SparkPeople will be the key, I hope to log everything on this mid life crisis (hey, at least if I am chasing girls, I'll be passing them too).

I look forward to the community to help me if I start to slip, or need motivation. I am new to blogging so hopefully these will get better as time progresses.

I would start with baby steps on the food tracking. It can be overwhelming trying to change too many things at once. For me, I didn't really start tracking calories until much later. My trainer just had me start writing down what I ate without the calories just to develop a sense of awareness of what I was eating before there was any attempt for accuracy. It takes a long time to hammer out a routine that is going to work believe me bud...I know. Start small and be consistent and most of all, don't hold your feet to the fire too much when starting out... Be patient. It takes a long time to learn new habits.

Yeah, I haven't been on much lately except to try and track all the food coming in.

It's a struggle.

I hope you'll find a team or two where there are others with common interests. Became active on those teams. Find folks who are supportive of you and your goals. Before you know it, you'll be losing your weight and well on your way. If you need help finding teams or have questions, please drop by my page and ask. I'll be happy to help you.

And create a SparkPage for yourself! You'll be glad you did. It's a wonderful way for folks to drop by and communicate with you ... both with comments and goodies.

Give yourself some time ... it will take that to learn all the tools and to find your way around. But you can do it!! We're so glad you are here!

Wishing you great success on your journey!

HELLO JOHN....WELCOME!
I would first recommend you CHANGE your username to something positive! BIG JOHN....is basically confirming what you think of yourself....FIT JOHN....is better self-talk! Just a quick observation! :) Setting yourself up for success starts with your brain and how we talk to ourselves! :)

Congratulations for joining SP and making the changes in a healthy way and not some stupid diet! Log whatever passes your lips, eat more things from the ground than out of a bag, and ask for help if you need it!

Enjoy your journey and now if you're surfing the web, you can be going through your sparkpoints list and learning what this site has to offer!
Please don't hesitate to holler if you need anything!
Have A GREAT Week!
Patty
