Re-Catching the Spark

I used to be a size 14 up until about age 19.

Then due to illness, too much alcohol and sedentary jobs - my weight went up.

At my biggest I was almost 19 stone. A size 24 trousers and a size 20 top.

Now in Jan 2010 - with help from sparkpeople - I am a size 22 in trousers and a size 18 top.

That might not sound like much of a drop but I am disabled with a joint deformity and am unable to exercise much at all.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have some great news. I put on my 20 pants today and they are comfy!! I am getting really excited. I also started my cardio last night!! Things are looking brighter today!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

thanks for the tips about strength training, sandra! i've been doing strength exercises for about thirty minutes three times a week. I've been wondering when to up the resistance, and recently i did just because i was feeling stronger, and the weight i was lifting was too easy. but your reference to upping the weight every 2-3 weeks was right on! it's been about 2.5 weeks since i started. It sure does feel good when the exercises you used to struggle with become easy!

i wish you the best of luck on your journey towards a more healthy lifestyle. I had knee surgery recently, and had to be sedentary for more than two months. believe me, it's not fun, but if you have to do it, you get through it. but sounds to me like you're lucky enough to have the chance to avoid it!
