Losin' it a little at a time

Hello! My name is Dana and I spend my entire work day at a desk. Looking back on my life, I can see my life being a series of choices to become a less active person. I'm currently changing that and trying to reintroduce fun active stuff into my life. When I was a kid, I loved to jump rope, so now I'm the proud owner of a jump rope. I also loved bike riding but since that's a bit pricier of an investment I'll have to save up for it.

How are you liking the Zumba toning class? I was really into Zumba when I got a DVD set but now I think I'm bored of the same few workouts... thinking if I should join a gym or another fun exercise class of some sort.

Dana - First, welcome to the 30 is going to be GREAT team! Second, you and I are in very similar positions - I too was affected by the "desk job" switch and it happened so slowly that I didn't really see that I was losing control. I also love Zumba & am trying to build more healthy, active habits.

Dana, I just wanted to let you know how much your comment on my page meant to me! There are a lot of great things that I got out of having cancer and one of them was stopping taking my body for granted. I know what it feels like not to be able to rely on your body anymore, not to have the physical energy to stand up by myself after a chemo session -- a scary feeling for a 27-year-old.

That's why I'm so proud of all of us for not taking our health for granted and making changes to improve ourselves. Keep up the awesome work!

As for the outside walking/jogging, I'm not a huge fan of it. I have a few different reasons but allergies being a big one. I also don't feel like I get that intense of a workout outside. On one of the rare sunny days in Western Washington, I might go out for a light walk.

When I first adopted my dog, we would go on walks all the time. We ran into a problem though. It's hard to get in a nice good workout when you have to yell encouragements to your dog because she doesn't want to move that fast.
